"The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn.

From start to finish I loved this book. I haven't read any Koontz books in the past, and from other reviews I hear this one is a bit different. It's a great story based on an interesting premise. What I didn't expect was the awesome sense of humor and to be laughing as much as I did listening to this book.

I drive a lot for work and found myself looking forward to my next road trip just so I could listen to more Odd Thomas.

David Aaron Baker does a fabulous job on the performance. So good in fact that when the movie comes out next year I bet I will disappointed when Odd isn't voiced by David Aaron Baker.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

What did you like best about this story?

This book is a fiction, but based on a very real threat. I found the premise to be quite plausible and can tell some time and research went into what the aftermath of any event that disrupts communication and transportation would be. The author managed to not only write a book that warns of the dangers of an EMP attack, but also made it entertaining and quite moving.

What about Joe Barrett’s performance did you like?

I wasn't so sure when I first started listening if I would like the Joe Barett's voice on this, but after a chapter or two his voice seemed perfect for the main character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

As a father of two girls, I could definitely identify with the main characters struggle to keep both his daughters safe, especially his willingness to do almost anything to get insulin for his diabetic daughter.
