He's Hollywood's most dazzling star, who is worshiped by millions and hated by one twisted soul. His existence is under siege as a series of terrifying, enigmatic "messages" breaches the security systems of his Bel Air estate. The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim's compound. Manheim's security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be.

If you like Koontz you won't be disappointed. Not one of his best but definitely entertaining. As with many of Koontz novels I knew where this was going within the first 30 minutes but getting there is always such a pleasure! Koontz belabors the thought processes of the main characters which I found a little boring - I want to get to the action! Just put your Otis on "fast forward" and you won't miss much. Still, a good story in the Koontz tradition.

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

I am not normally a Koontz fan but will read everything he publishes as I'm a fan of the genre. Stephen King is still the king as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, False Memory was a complete surprise! Written in the same Koontz style, complete with excrutiating details that don't enhance my listening experience as much as annoy me (Ok, Ok, get on with it!) and the abundance of similes, the story line and characters are wonderful. I listen on my daily commute and found myself not wanting to turn off my player. I think this is Koontz' best solo effort so far.

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

    "Hill is a King!"
    Overall

Like a previous reviewer, I too got this book because I'm a huge Stephen King fan - the hook worked on me too! And, like another reviewer, I was prepared to be disappointed. NOT! Joe Hill is definitely his father's son. I compare Joe Hill to his father because, as far as I'm concerned, Stephen King is the best modern writer out there and I compare every book and author in the horror genre to the best. Hill's characters are superbly developed, the story line is wonderfully scary and original, and the progression is fast paced. As I got close to the story's end I couldn't put it down - but, at the same time, I didn't want it to be over! I loved it and will be a Hill fan for as long as he can crank out horror of this quality.

Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

"Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer has nothing on Harry"
    Overall

Good read, reminiscent of the Mike Hammer series of the 50's but with an updated plot. The narrator makes a good story even better. The tone and inflection he delivers sets the perfect tone - he is Harry Bosche! If you listen while commuting, this one will make you sit in your garage when you get home, sucking fumes, just to hear more!
