A remarkably rare black orchid at a flower show lures Nero Wolfe from his comfortable brownstone. But before the detective and his sidekick, Archie Goodwin, can stop and smell the roses, a diabolically daring murder puts a blight on the proceedings. The murderer to be weeded out is definitely not a garden-variety killer.

    "He will not disappoint."

It's August in New York, and the only thing that's hotter than the pavement is Manhattan D.A. Alex Cooper's professional and personal life. Just as she's claiming an especially gratifying victory in a rape case, she gets the call: the body of a young woman has been found in an abandoned building. The brutality of the murder is disturbing enough, but when a second body, beaten and disposed of in exactly same manner, is found off the Belt Parkway, the city's top brass want the killer found fast.

    Anna says: "Simply addicting!"

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    Book yes, Reader no.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Actually I couldn't tell the difference in the people. Not enough personality in the characters.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It was not a good read.

Was Killer Heat worth the listening time?

    NO

    Any additional comments?

Let me know when this one is redone with the original reader, as was done with JD Robb's book. It's just a shame I didn't realize it wasn't the same reader.

Determined to find justice for her mother, top NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat continues to pursue the elusive former CIA station chief who ordered her execution more than a decade ago. For the hunt, Nikki teams once again with her romantic partner, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Jameson Rook, and their quest for the old spy and the motive behind the past murder unearths an alarming terror plot, which is anything but ancient history. It is lethal. It is now. And it has already entered its countdown phase.

Stacey Joseph says: "Narrator ruins the characters."
    "Narrator changed. Not good."

What did you love best about Deadly Heat?

Difficult to say, the reading is off. Almost boring.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    ROACH

Have you listened to any of Robert Petkoff’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not that I am aware. Would not purposely get another read by him. Don't care for the just reading not feeling the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"That's a wrap. Let's go straight to DVD". Try another reader. Could be a different outcome.

    Any additional comments?

    Stop changing readers.

Charlene Rosalind Carter Grant believes that she will be murdered in four days. And she wants Boston’s top detective to handle her death investigation. It will be up close and personal. No evidence of forced entry, no sign of struggle. Charlie tells a chilling story: Each year at 8:00 p.m. on January 21, a woman has died. The victims have been childhood best friends from a small town in New Hampshire; the motive remains unknown. Now only one friend, Charlie, remains to count down her final hours.

If you could sum up Catch Me in three words, what would they be?

    DD Warren softens.

Which character – as performed by Kirsten Potter – was your favorite?

    Charlene

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it took two days.

    Any additional comments?

I like Kirsten reading. I got a bit confuse as to which character was which because the voices each sounded the same.

Leonard Dyke's writing style didn't offend. But all of his work featured unhappy endings: murders. When four people die, including the author, police finally call on Nero Wolfe. Wolfe baits a trap, and when it springs shut, he finds that truth is stranger (and bloodier) than fiction.

    M. W. Baker says: "Good stuff"

Where does Murder By the Book rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I listen to Rex Stout audiobooks over and over again. I go to sleep listening to one and wake up listening to another. Just a little obsessive. Good stuff.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I smile at the banter between Nero and Archie. The reader is quite good.
