Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

You will enjoy living the events preceding, during and immediately following WWI from mutiple points of view! And the narrator was one of the best. OMG, I couldn't believe how well John Lee could change between accents and vary his cadence of speech to match each of the characters! Normally I like spy/murder mysteries with interesting characters. This novel is a much richer and multi-dimensional and I am the better for having read it! Thank you Ken Follett!

Before downloading this book, I read the reviews about how unrealistic this story was...well, for me it was exactly the escape I was looking for...and it didn't have the graphic violence and cruelty to animals that so many of the newer suspense books have. I will probably listen to every book in the series. Wonderful!

Once in a generation, a historian will redefine his field, producing a book that demands to be read or heard - a product of electrifying scholarship conveyed with commanding skill. Diarmaid MacCulloch's Christianity is such a book. Breathtaking in ambition, it ranges back to the origins of the Hebrew Bible and covers the world, following the three main strands of the Christian faith.

But when that very same long-missing Degas painting is delivered to Claire's studio, she begins to suspect that it may itself be a forgery. Her desperate search for the truth leads Claire into a labyrinth of deceit where secrets hidden since the late 19th century may be the only evidence that can now save her life.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

How do you rate a story where you despise each of the characters? First you hate one, then the other, then both with intermittent sympathy? I found myself taking turns hating each of the two main characters, Nick and Amy Dunn. The book and the story is well crafted and smartly told, but I hope not to endure another story like this again. I am emotionally worn out, yet I had to keep listening to the story…even when I was totally disgusted with the characters that I wanted to slap them. This listen was like watching a train wreck that you find horrible, however you cannot pull your eyes away for a moment. Instead, you are drawn into the drama. .
My guess is readers who enjoy psychological thrillers would find this book a realistic and believable study of the complexities in relationships.
And even now I find myself wondering if a sequel will be written and I begin to speculate how the relationship will unfold.

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

According to time management expert Laura Vanderkam, mornings hold the key to taking control of our schedules. If we use them wisely, we can build habits that will allow us to lead happier, more productive lives. Drawing on real-life anecdotes and scientific research that shows why the early hours of the day are so important, Vanderkam reveals how successful people use mornings to help them accomplish things that are often impossible to take care of later in the day.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have been trying to capture control of my out of control life, so this book had some interesting points. The idea that we should get up and use our time in the morning isn't a new one. At first I was disappointed that this might be the premise, however, the author gave good examples of other advantages of using your mornings wisely. Since listening, I have put into use some of the suggestions and find things going much smoother.

Wish there were more to the book, though.

Has What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but there are actually studies that show you should get REM sleep rather than get up to exercise if you are trying to learn anything new, be creative or loose weight.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I wish a professional had read the book

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No
