Don Quixote, the world's first novel and by far the best-known book in Spanish literature, was originally intended by Cervantes as a satire on traditional popular ballads, yet he also parodied the romances of chivalry. By happy coincidence he produced one of the most entertaining adventure stories of all time and, in Don Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, two of the greatest characters in fiction.

    "This book sucks!"

I just had to stop... feeling hard about having spent a credit on it... It is incredible that the author spens almost 24 hours repeating over and over the same thing...

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

Andrew says: "Seth Should Have Quit"
    "Great book"
    Overall

This book actually describes what I have personally gone through managing a complex multi-year program. Many people say he doesn't spell out when to quit... You just don't get it. The author clearly says don't quit your ***strategy***... but quit projects often. I cannot think of a clearer way of spelling out how to make decisions while in the dip.

When Guerrilla Marketing was first published in the 1980s, Jay Levinson was the first person on the block with an innovative, take-no-prisoners approach to marketing for the small business owner. In this updated '90s edition, Levinson has expanded and revised his wisdom to include the fastest-growing markets in the '90s with tips on how to reach and keep them.

Kenneth says: "Highly Relevant to the 1980s"
"This book is like watching movies from the 80's!"
    Overall

The marketing theory is great BUT the marketing tactics are ancient! The material is still in a pre-internet world... The tactics and economics of marketing have completely changed. This book needs to be updated to today's world... Don't waste your money until it is... I'm sure sorry I wasted mine!

    Overall

I have been in the eye of the storm at a huge global company for 5 years. The storm has been massive change and I have been leading that change in Canada. Everything Seth talks about I have personally lived through and can attest to the fact he is right on point with his analysis. Any change agent needs this book. Interesting he calls change agents leaders! ...

I just wish I would have listened to this material 3 years ago!

  • Master and Commander: Aubrey/Maturin Series, Book 1

This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

A great story and the author really does a good job of situating you in the era

In 1991, the United States Army trounced the Iraqi army in battle only to stumble blindly into postwar turmoil. Then in 2003 the United States did it again. How could this happen? How could the strongest power in modern history fight two wars against the same opponent in just over a decade, win lightning victories both times, and yet still be woefully unprepared for the aftermath? Because Americans always forget the political aspects of war.

  • Ulysses

Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

    A User says: "Ulysses (Unabridged)"
    "Audiobook format not appropriate"
    Overall

This is far too complex a book for audio book. There's too many layers that really should be read, not listened to. It is very hard to keep the thread going with the sudden jumps from what the person is thinking to a conversation for instance. In no time at all one becomes confused. This is not to say that the audio format doesn't give you a good sense for the overall story. The problem is that Joyce's genius is in all the subtle messages are lost which is what makes this novel the work of art it is. Will be buying the book!
