It's official, I am hooked on this series. It's a young adult novel, but has larger appeal. It's is highly addictive. It's imaginative, fun, frustrating, and creative. I was even more invested in the characters in this second book. The large turn is predictable but the twists and turns in getting there are exquisite. Delightful and surprising.
I'm not going to lie, I bought this book because of the title -- what a fantastic title, right? Also, becuase in trying to read more books in translation this year.
I was disappointed. It's a creative story idea and has brief pockets of interesting, but it's ultimately forgettable. It's trying too hard to be clever and a bit surreal to do either properly.
More positively the narrator was great and the name jokes played well in audio.
Overall don't waste your time. The title is the best bit.
I've read this book before but never listened to it. I still love the story but the narrator was terrible. Her accents are laughably bad. As the main character has a French accent by the end I was ready to pull my hair out listening to the narrator butcher it. Unfortunate because the story is otherwise worth a listen.
This is wildly funny, brilliantly researched, and remarkably well written. A must for the science inclined. This made every one of my nerdy bits tingle with pleasure while reading.
Loved this. The bits about the game and spilling . . . what a delightful plot device. Dark, funny, and can't put it down interesting. Such good fun.
I have loved all of these books. I was very excited when this came out last week. Another hit for the author. I hope he will keep them coming. If you're looking for some fun listens this is an excellent series. Make sure to start at the beginning.
This was lovely. A subtle look at humanity, life, power structures, feminism, and family. Sticks with you for a long time. Well worth a listen.
I expected this to be very funny based on an article I read which recommended it. While somewhat dry it was ultimately underwhelming. 1/2 bland intern, 1/2 super-assassin, and more than a little bit whiney John fails to inspire a genuine connection with the reader. This reads like an action movie script. If you're looking to kill a few hours, and can't get to the nearest cinema, go for it. If you're looking for any real depth skip it.
I am so sad to reach the end of this trilogy. I feel like I could have read this forever. I was able to get completely lost in the world Gier created. This is one of those series like Harry Potter or the Hunger Games that will suck in any reader.
Very cute. I really enjoyed the characters and was quickly hooked. This is a wonderful YA book to lose oneself in. Full of curiosities. I picked up the second before reaching the last chapter. Charming.
