Here are twelve magnificent stories in which John Cheever celebrates, with unequaled grace and tenderness, the deepest feelings we have.

i sort of wrote him off as a "new yorker writer" whatever that means: slick but not deep; no power. Etc. Boy was I wrong. Try The Swimmer or the Ten 48. I just downloaded the Falconer. And plan on collecting them all through the summer.

Especially Four Quartets. Is there some kind of Four Quarterts recovery group for addicts?

  • The Iliad

    Story

The Iliad is one of the most enduring creations of Western Civilization and was originally written to be recited or chanted to the accompaniment of various instruments. Properly performed, this work today is just as meaningful, just as powerful and just as entertaining as it was in the ninth century B.C.,and it casts its spell upon modern listeners with the same raw intensity as it did upon the people of ancient times.

    Jefferson says: "An Excellent Iliad"
    "This is a wow"
    Overall

Minus 1 star for the goofy "music" intros.

This production of Hamlet, directed by Sir John Gielgud and starring Richard Burton, was recorded in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and with the actors performing just as they would if you went to see a production tonight. "The particular intensity and nerves of this is probably the same kind of thing that excites an audience in live theater," says Richard Burton.

Thomas A. Copeland says: "Burton at His Best"
    "Bad Sound"
    Overall

Not sure there's anything to correct the fuzziness.
