Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

What did you love best about The Witness?

I like Nora Roberts type stories, you know they will have a happy ending - maybe not the ending you expect, but still happy. The story kept me on the edge of my seat through parts of it. Lots of twists and turns!

From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend 's Manhattan apartment. And though she can appreciate her clients ' extraordinary homes, their expensive collections, and their adorable pets, Lila has never longed for possessions of her own. Everything she has, including her heart, is portable.

What disappointed you about The Collector?

The story is very weak. Coincidences that are just toooo far of a stretch.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?

Sure, she is a great author

    Any additional comments?

I had a hard time finishing it. I like Nora Roberts generally, so I kept thinking it would get better, but no luck.

The last thing Boston Detective D. D. Warren remembers is walking the crime scene after dark. Then, a creaking floorboard, a low voice crooning in her ear… She is later told she managed to discharge her weapon three times. All she knows is that she is seriously injured, unable to move her left arm, unable to return to work. My sister is Shana Day, a notorious murderer who first killed at fourteen. Incarcerated for thirty years, she has now murdered more people while in prison than she did as a free woman.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I usually like Lisa Gardner but this book starts out talking about a crime scene where the woman's skin was peeled off in strips and about a cat that the same thing happened too. I can't get pictures like that out of my mind, so I had to stop listening.

What would have made The Edge of Never better?

Oh my, sorry to give a bad review but -- sooooooooooo boring. One of the main characters is a man and the other a woman. The chapters flip back and forth between characters but the narrator sounds the same in both, so I kept forgetting which was which. Very long and drawn out. No real "action".

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The beginning was OK middle was so long and boring that I didn't finish it.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

We listened this in the car on a a long trip. If I would have had other books available, I probably would have switched to another. It is a good story, but so long and dragged out -- we found ourselves saying "come on already!"

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes, because the movie would cut out the long dragged out parts.

    >The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

It was different than most of the mystery or romance novels I read. Different character types, different story lines. I really liked it. Usually I can always guess what's going to happen, but not this time!

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Would you listen to Gone Girl again? Why?

I can usually guess what is going to happen in stories. Not with this one. It really kept me guessing.

What did you like best about this story?

Even though it had lots of twists & turns, it was easy to follow. Some books, I have to rewind and say "now who was that again?" Not this one. It was easy to follow and VERY interesting.

    Any additional comments?

I have already recommended it to friends!
