Amazing! Had me smiling & stunned. I need to listen to it again right now.
Not unless they were planning a trip to Italy
Take any previous book, subtract Catholic & Vatican, replace with Dante & Italy and you have the same book. Then never ending descriptions & history of every little bit of architecture had me fast forwarding in the hope that the story would pick up. Narration was good.
This last part of the trilogy seemed to wander a bit more than the first 2 parts and the ending was a bit abrupt but not a bad listen. It brought the story to a close. I'm going back to listen to all 3 parts together to see it was a difference in writing style or maybe plot that left me feeling it was only a 3 star listen.
I've never been able to make it thru the original novel but toss in zombies and ninjas and I am hooked. Listened because of Seth Grahame-Smith's other novel but was unsure at first that it would be different from the zombie free edition. Couldn't put it down! I found myself sitting in the driveway to listen to just a bit more.
This has always been one of my favorite books so to be able to listen to it made it even more special. Mr. Gardner gave life to characters that I thought I knew. Things I had forgotten mixed with the stuff I remembered.
It is a very detailed book that gets that holds true after more than 30 years. Thanks Audible and Mr. King.
I too loved James' reading but my understanding is he cancelled the day he was to begin recording the book. Things happen. It'll be odd listening to a different voice but John is very good. A few chapters in and the story will be the focus, not the voice. Go back and listen to James reading the first few books. Not nearly as polished as he became by book 4. His breathing is annoying and he changed the pronunciation of Marcone. I'll buy the audio and listen to it repeatedly as I have to the other books. Harry is dead: He lost his home, car, office, lab, love, and daughter. His view of everything is different. Maybe a different voice is logical.
I read this when it first came out and enjoyed it. Thirty years later I listened to it and enjoyed it just as much. Not high action, just a good detective novel with characters you can't help but care about. It does seem a little slow at places in the beginning when details bog it down but everything builds up to a great finish.
