After a near-fatal head injury, Navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a terrifying glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the danger as injury-induced imaginings. In a desperate effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorist team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton - the sweet girl next door who has grown into a remarkable woman.

I wish I had my $4.95 back. I should have read the reviews, and I should have known better. A romance author doesn't make the best military fiction author.

A wonderful collection of short stories by master storyteller Sir Terry Pratchett, featuring dragons, dinosaurs, cavemen and car races! Dragons have invaded Crumbling Castle, and all of King Arthur's knights are either on holiday or visiting their grannies. It's a disaster! Luckily, there's a spare suit of armour and a very small boy called Ralph who's willing to fill it. Together with Fortnight the Friday knight and Fossfiddle the wizard, Ralph sets out to defeat the fearsome fire-breathers.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Vintage Terry Pratchett. Yes, I realize these are children's stories, but they were still fun. Narrator was an excellent fit as well.

Humanity's last encounter with aliens saw 16.2 billion people killed in a war with the Merkiaari that had spanned decades. Two hundred years later, the Alliance is cautiously exploring beyond its borders again, but the survey corp is considered a mere gesture by some. General Burgton of the 501st Infantry Regiment believes a lack of expansion is leading the Alliance into stagnation. So when one small ship discovers a new alien race, it should be an easy decision to make contact, but what if the aliens are like the Merkiaari?

Since I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review I really wanted to like it 5 stars worth. Science fiction and meeting new aliens are some of my favorite things in audiobooks, so I liked that about this book. The aliens, in particular, were well described.

I know I'm in the minority here, but the narrator's human female voices were annoying. They all seemed to be the same irritating, old voice. The male voices were well done. I finally finished in my Kindle, and I enjoyed the story more after that.

There seemed to be two separate story lines in this book. I still have no idea why they were together. Unless I seriously missed something, the plot lines never intersected. I kept waiting for them to, but they didn't.

I thought the ending was strange. I haven't decided if I'm going to pick up the next in the series or not. I will admit to being curious, but I'm not sure yet.

With human civilization annihilated by a biological zombie plague, a rag-tag fleet of yachts and freighters known as Wolf Squadron scours the Atlantic, searching for survivors. Within every abandoned liner and carrier lurks a potential horde, safety can never be taken for granted, and death and turning into one of the enemy is only a moment away. Yet every ship and town holds the flickering hope of survivors. One and two from lifeboats, a dozen from a fishing village, a few hundred wrenched by fury and fire from a ship that once housed thousands....

What happens to present-day Earth if friendly aliens take humanity under their wing? What happens when their enemy becomes ours? X-Files meet Independence Day when incredible events thrust Air Force Captains Jake Giard and Sandra Fitzpatrick into a decades-long global conspiracy to integrate humanity into a galactic government. However, as Jake finishes indoctrination into the program, it renders present-day Earth a disposable pawn in a galactic civil war. Unknown aliens with a dark secret raid the planet. Within and even below Washington DC, Jake fights through a post-apocalyptic hell, struggling to comprehend the enigmatic aftermath of the first attack. On the West Coast, Sandra's squadron smashes against the invading aliens. Thrown to ground, Sandy wades through blazing infernos and demented looters in a desperate attempt to save her family. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The action sequences were exciting. The beginning grabbed me, and I couldn't wait to get back to it. Narration was well done. I was not happy with the development of the main female character, but I could live with it. If you like space battles, and the "what if" scenario, I highly recommend this one.

I struggled with the beginning because it was difficult to decide who the hero/heroine was in the book. I started out thinking it was one character. Then, maybe a different one. Or was it the third one we're introduced to? The main characters were very flawed. I didn't find myself really rooting for any of them. I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to read anything else in the series. Then, the ending was so intriguing that I found myself thinking, "Maybe....."

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the first few minutes I was drawn into ancient Babylonia with Jack Siglar. The story was action packed. Although I'm tempted to go back and read the series that leads up to this one it wasn't necessary for enjoyment of this book. Looking forward to the next one.

"Imagine you have the power to fly. Pretty awesome, right? Imagine you have the power to levitate or crush something the size of a Winnebago. Equally awesome. Now ... here's the catch: having the power means you are bonded irreversibly to a smartass, sociopathic alien life form. Not so awesome. So, what would you do with all of that power? The way I figured it, I had one of two options: Option #1) Use it to commit crime or Option #2) Use it to fight crime. My name is Gabe Garrison and I chose Option #2."

Another reviewer mentioned this was like a comic book. I think that's exactly right. I was expecting more story and less comic qualities. I was probably not the target audience for this book. I think someone who enjoys superhero comic books would enjoy this story. The narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life.

Pluses: I enjoy anything that has a dog as one of the characters. The mystery was well done. I was sure I had it all figured out and suddenly I didn't.

Minuses: The main character spends too much time reliving his past. I was ready for him to get on with it already and to quit telling me about his wife in particular.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had the right mix of police procedural, mystery, and fantasy. It was fun. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith was perfect and made the book come alive for me. I know some reviewers had problems with his American accents, but he was so entertaining that I just really didn't care. I quickly snapped up the next two books in the series and polished them off within the week as well. I am sad that I now have to wait on the next one. However, I think I'll go see what else Holdbrook-Smith has at Audible. I think I'd like anything that he read.
