This is one sexy listen!
As in any collection of this nature, not all the stories in this multi-varied anthology will strike a chord with all listeners. Rachel Kramer Bussel has put together quite a diverse collection of stories here, each with its particular variation of the happy ending. Assembled as they are in rapid fire succession, the effect is akin to setting off a mat of fire-crackers. The cumulative effect is nothing short of explosive!
I don't think a better narrator could have been chosen for this collection than Rose Caraway. She adapts her sultry voice for each story perfectly, and as she does with her podcasts, provides for a wonderful listen. Nice choice, Audible!
I can't believe this book has received so little attention on Amazon and Audible. As of this writing, there are a total of only six reviews on Amazon.
Other reviewers have summarized the book and I don't need to repeat their comments.
Suffice it say that the writing is beautiful. The narration fits the story so perfectly I couldn't imagine it being done any better.. Between the two, I've never seen Amazon's Kindle 'Immersion Reading" concept work any better.
The Summer Isles deserves more exposure.
I got hooked on this story when Rose Caraway serialized the first 30 or so chapters on her "Kiss Me Quicks" podcast. I had to hear the rest of the story, and bought it from Audible. This was one wild ride, You had a plot worthy of "Homeland" superimposed over a 1950s style radiation induced monster story. From chapter to chapter you really couldn't predict what would happen next. I got chills every time those bedbugs came out.
I usually listen to audiobooks while I'm driving, and several times I had trouble shutting off the car when I got where I was going. I just had to hear what happened next.
Superb narration by Rose Caraway, and a great story by Allen Dusk. In future, I will stick to Marriott and Hilton, and stay far clear from ever checking into anything resembling the "Shady Palms Motel."
I haven't read the print version of this book, but the narrator's delivery could only multiply the impact of the stories.
There are 69 stories, each with its own characters.
I can't think of a better narrator for these stories than Rose Caraway. Her delivery is talented and sultry. These are all short stories, but her voice draws you into them. Never boring.
