Quirky and different, with an interesting story and a few surprises along the way. Great narrator too; I'd definitely recommend it!
I'm planning to try the next book in the series (read by the same author.)
Very good book. One suggestion for future listeners: If I had it to do over, I might have gone with another narrator. The one for this version has a very girlish quality that I really liked, however her voice was also very gravelly and after awhile, that started to bother me. Just a small issue, but something to consider!
I LOVED this book! At first, I have to admit I thought I'd made a mistake...it does start out a little slow. But this turned out to be, hands down, one of my favorite books. Beautifully written, completely engrossing, wonderfully quirky and interesting characters. Many times, I found myself actually looking forward to the long commute home so I could get back to the story. And when it was over, I found myself missing it.
Really enjoyed this book even more than I anticipated. Interesting characters and period setting, excellent narrator, suspense, drama...loved it. One word of caution: I wound up fast forwarding in a few places to avoid some of the animal-related violence. I (and I think the story) could have lived without it, but the book was good enough to get past. I still really liked this book, so much so that I immediately downloaded the sequel. Enjoy!
Great follow up for "Pillars of the Earth."
Good narrator (I was extremely happy to find it's the same one they used for Pillars) engrossing story...maybe a little too much violence involving animals for me in both books, but these stories were both good enough that I could get past it. (I just chose to fast forward the mp3 player in a few places...)
