The perfume-scented letter that turns Tommie McCloud’s world upside down arrives from a stranger only days after her father’s death. The woman who wrote it claims that Tommie is her daughter—and that she was kidnapped as a baby thirty-one years ago. Tommie wants to believe it’s all a hoax, but suddenly a girl who grew up on a Texas ranch finds herself inextricably linked to a horrific past: the slaughter of a family in Chicago, the murder of an Oklahoma beauty queen, and the kidnapping of a little girl named Adriana.

If you could sum up Playing Dead in three words, what would they be?

A interesting book that had me listening eagerly to find out the end. Lots of twists and turns.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    The main character

Have you listened to any of Madeleine Lambert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, haven't listened to her. Found her ok. She seemed to miss some of the humor in the book, but she did a nice job with the voices. She was a bit inconsistent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Dead babies finger

    Any additional comments?

Not totally predictable. The characters were interesting.

Bruges, 1460. Street smart, brilliant at figures, adept at the subtleties of diplomacy and the well-timed untruth, Nicholas van der Poele rises from wastrel to prodigy in a breathless adventure that wins him the love of the strongest woman in Bruges and the hatred of two powerful enemies. Niccolo Rising combines history, adventure and high romance in the tradition stretching from Alexandre Dumas to Mary Renault.

Where does Niccolo Rising rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love this series and am always thrilled when one of them is offered as an audible books. I would put these book at the top of the list. Dorothy Dunnett is my favorite author. I love history and this book and all of Dunnetts books are drenched in history and drama. Clever clever books.

Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

What disappointed you about The Golem and the Jinni?

Very long..and yet not very gripping. I just couldn't get emotionally invested in the characters even though I really wanted to. Slow and plodding.

Would you be willing to try another one of George Guidall’s performances?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointed

    Any additional comments?

If a story is written well I can enjoy emersing myself in the book but this one barely gripped my attention and seemed to ponderous and unexciting though the story was about magic.

I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do. The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her.I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bests eller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.

What made the experience of listening to Pandemonium the most enjoyable?

The narrator did well. The story was interesting and different but you could see sometimes what was going to happen. Still as a sequel it was gripping. It kept me listening. The ending was as I stated not unexpected and so I probably won't continue with the series. Still up to this point it was and is a very well written story if a bit unbelievable with the heroines almost super human strength and endurance.

    Any additional comments?

This series is a great summer read especially if you are coming off a Hunger Games addiction.

What did you like best about The Secret Scripture? What did you like least?

I just could not get into this story and actually gave up on it.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sebastian Barry? Why or why not?

Probably not. Just couldn't find any desire to listen any more.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I think the story just dragged. I am not sure the narrator was at fault.

Could you see The Secret Scripture being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Not interested enough

    Any additional comments?

    Really slow read...
