Martin Luther entered a monastery as a youth and as a man shattered the structure of the medieval church, speaking out against the corrupt religious practices of the time. His demand that the authority for doctrine and practice be scriptures, rather than popes or councils, echoed around the world and ignited the great Reformation. Accused of heresy and threatened with excommunication and death, Luther maintained his bold stand and refused to recant. In his crusade to eliminate religious abuses, he did more than any other man to establish the Protestant faith.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

.. Having this hard bound book in my library for years, but never had the time to read it. Makes me sad. Now listening to, Here I Stand, truly makes me understand what Martin Luther did for Christian growth. This book also encourages me to read my Bible and dig deeper. I also thank God for his servant Martin Luther. This will NOT be the last time I listen to this book. For I have listened to many self-help books in the past, but this one goes right to the core... my Spirit.

What did you like best about this story?

Understanding the Reformation and what it took to take on the Roman Catholic church within.

Have you listened to any of Tom Weiner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Tome Weiner before, but I truly enjoyed his voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. My extreme reaction was anger. I'm mad that many ordained men/women of God become full of greed. Also, just because anyone who goes to a Protestant church does not mean their church leadership from the top down it is not immune.

    Any additional comments?

This book should be read by new converts to the faith. To understand how greed can get into the church. Each one of us has the truth at our fingertips... called the Bible. Read it and ask the Holy Spirit for help.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning classic tells the poignant tale of a Chinese farmer and his family in old agrarian China. The humble Wang Lung glories in the soil he works, nurturing the land as it nurtures him and his family. Nearby, the nobles of the House of Hwang consider themselves above the land and its workers; but they will soon meet their own downfall. The working people riot, breaking into the homes of the rich and forcing them to flee. When Wang Lung shows mercy to one noble and is rewarded, he begins to rise in the world, even as the House of Hwang falls.

If you could sum up The Good Earth in three words, what would they be?

    poor, determined, rich

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Good Earth?

When O-lan goes to the fields to help Wang Lung. Him seeing her as a help mate.

What about Anthony Heald’s performance did you like?

I liked the way he would articulate different people. Allowing me to know who was talking.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me sad to be placed in each characters position. Knowing how O-lan felt when Wang Lung saw her ugliness for the first time. For drought, rain, famine, and family that would suck the life out of anyone, but Wang Lung stood strong and learned to manage his money.

    Any additional comments?

Pearl Buck is one great writer. I have had her books in my collection for years and unable to read it because of time restrictions. Now with Audiobooks, I can listen as well read and enjoy my books as I travel.

Beth Moore wants listeners to know that if God could lift her out of the pit, He can get ANYONE out! She admits she wasn't just a visitor; this former pit-dweller had to be delivered from acres of life-accumulated dirt, bone-chilling darkness, spirit-deadening anger, heart-breaking desperation and mind-numbing confusion. The permanent lessons she learned in her desperation - shared in this very personal audiobook - are lessons of hope for all of us.

Would you consider the audio edition of Get Out of That Pit to be better than the print version?

It is easier to listen to Beth Moore than reading it. Her energy and insight motivates me than the printed word.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no, I wanted to follow instructions and build on each chapter

Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact—Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elizabeth, and Anna, to name a few. They were ordinary men and women who discovered that the latter years of life can be some of the most rewarding and fulfilling. “For them, growing older wasn’t something to be denied or dreaded;” says Billy Graham, “it was to be embraced as part of God’s plan for their lives.” Billy Graham’s life and ministry have been dedicated to the here and now but always with a happy-ever-after in view.

Would you try another book from Billy Graham and/or Robert Lake?

I was unable to finish the Book. I just couldn't stand Robert Lakes voice. I also allowed my mother of 87 years to hear it, and she also didn't care for Robert Lakes voice.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt that Robert Lakes wanted to emulate Billy Graham with no success. He should stay with western books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

First time I purchased an Audible book of Billy Graham. I will go back to Books a Million and purchase the hard copy from now on.

I am a 65 year old Geek. Enjoyed hearing about the struggles and successes of Steve Jobs. I even wonder how in the world did he take so many drugs and still have an IQ equal to Einstein ? Great book to learn about the progression of Apple.
