I was very hopeful about this book. However, the writer quickly lost credibility. I never made it more than half way through this book as the author's characterizations of others seemed so dishonest.
Listening to this book, I was deeply moved by Lincoln's generosity of spirit and willingness to forgive. During the reading, I felt I came to know and love Lincoln. Even though I understood Lincoln would be assassinated at Ford's theater, I still felt a great sense of loss when the book recounted these events. I have never connected to history this way before. Listening to the book, I felt like I touched the historical soul of my country and was left with the profound desire to be forgiving with "malice toward none; with charity for all."
Lincoln was my favorite character. I also loved learning about each cabinet member.
At the end, as Lincoln dies, Mr. Thomas's voice breaks.
