I ended up not finishing this book by my favorite author. I just couldn't stand the narrator's style. Vonnegut is a satirist. His take on society is critical, but his humor is innocent, as though he looks at the world through another lens than the rest of us. The reader's style was that of an amateur newscaster. He didn't seem to understand the material. Don't listen to this one, read it.
It is truly a unique world that these characters inhabit. Is it magic or powerfully trained brains? Either way, the night circus is the most creative setting since Hogwartz. I was enchanted, not that this story is all warm and fuzzy. Listen carefully, the details will be important later. Jim Dale is the best reader around, as anyone who has listened to the Harry Potter series knows. I rarely give 5 stars, but The Night Circus deserves it.
How did all of the Swedish characters suddenly become British? Very annoying. This is a good book, but there is a lot of dead space. See the movie, it's better.
