Disappointing mini-book after listening to the longer and much more exciting prequile, Then Came War, first. Did not care for the name change of the main character from the prequile; and, the change in narrrators only added to the discontinuity.
She could have put more effort into the entire storyline.
The narrator sounded as boring as this audiobook proved to be. Given the lifelessness of the storyline itself he may have done the best with the material he had before him. However, he sounded as though he was reading to children, not to an adult audience.
I would have thrown it back to the author and told her it was not a book, but only part 1, and to better develop the storyline.
Not only would I listen to it again, but I have listened to it three times over this weekend. Suspenseful yet fast moving with important details in each character's development.
My favorite character is Cassie. I can totally relate to her strength and propping up her husband to be the best man he can be.
I appreciated the continuity of narration of Mr. Pierces between Goodwin's pervious Economic Collapse trilogy and this book.
Without giving up too much, I found Cassie's actions post raid particularly moving. She acted just as I like to imagine I would have done.
Mr. Jones's taking in of his supervisee and helping to set him on the path to preparedness was another significant moment for me in this story.
If you enjoyed the American Meltdown Economic Collapse trilogy you will enjoy this every bit as much, if not more. I cannot wait for Book 2 in this series to be released.
