In this short book illuminated by a deep understanding and love of humanity, John Steinbeck retells an old Mexican folk tale: the story of the great pearl, how it was found, and how it was lost. For the diver Kino, finding a magnificent pearl means the promise of a better life for his impoverished family. His dream blinds him to the greed and suspicions the pearl arouses in him and his neighbors, and even his loving wife cannot temper his obsession or stem the events leading to the tragedy. For Steinbeck, Kino and his wife illustrate the fall from innocence of people who believe that wealth erases all problems.

Where does The Pearl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This narrator does a great job of bringing this classic novella to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book starts out fairly slowly... once you make it to the third chapter, you should be able to listen to to the end.

Where does Rot & Ruin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved the audio version of this book. The narrator was fantastic, and really allowed me to differentiate between characters without any problem.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rot & Ruin?

I cannot name my most memorable moment, but I often found myself driving down the interstate, making faces that I would envision the characters making.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Bennie and Nix were in the lookout tower... I cried, and hoped that help was coming for them!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book is quite long, and I couldn't listen to it in one sitting, it actually took me a week and a half of commuting back and forth to work, but I often found myself walking in the building with earbuds still in, not wanting to pause until the ride home.
