I like this story though there were several times the author got a little list happy, to the point I though OMG enough with the lists. I really liked Paul Hecht's voice. It is very pleasing and easy to listen to, however, I didn't like his interpretation of the cadence or flow of the narrative at times. It just seemed a little off and took me most of the book to get used to. I would have given 2 stars for performance his voice hadn't had such a pleasant timbre.
This series is the story of Noah with a little Cain and Abel thrown in. I liked the series, though it contained some of the most reprehensible characters I have read about in a long time. It is bleak speculation that, in 40 million years, men can't stop killing each other.
This book was highly recommended to me, but after 1/2 hour I could not stand it any more. I even tried speeding it up and slowing it down, but the narration is so stilted and unnatural I NEVER want to hear a book narrated by Teri Clark Linden again. I wish audible had a way of screening certain authors or narrators out, or at least a place to make notes on things like this to remind us when we are browsing. I rated the story neutral since I could not finish it, and I will try to find a Barbara Hambly book narrated by someone (anyone) else.
The narrator had a very pleasant voice, so pleasant it almost put me to sleep. The story could have been good, indeed I thought it would be, but the author had a tendency to drone on and on about the philosophies of different factions in the book. A real snoozer, and it could have been quite exciting.
When I looked at reviews of this book 95% were from guys and rated very high, so I got them for my husband and he loved them as well. When I got around to giving these a try I was not dissappointed. Initially (while in our dimension) they were a little heavy on the military jargon, but once I got past that and they got through the squall, it was great. There is a lot of fighting, but this book wasn't just "guns ablazin'" over MY head military mumbo jumbo I didn't get. I could not wait to find out what happened next. I'm on #3 now and still into it.
They are easy listening and great fun. My husband just loves them and I hear him laughing out loud at them, and I do too. James Marsters does a great job with the narration. We've already downloaded all of his books and will be getting the rest as they come.
