"Big Sur's a humane, precise account of the extraordinary ravages of alcohol delirium tremens on Kerouac, a superior novelist who had strength to complete his poetic narrative, a task few scribes so afflicted have accomplished...others crack up. Here we meet San Francisco's poets and recognize hero Dean Moriarty 10 years after On the Road. Jack Kerouac was a 'writer,' as his great peer W.S. Burroughs says, and here at the peak of his suffering humorous genius he wrote through his misery to end with 'Sea,' a brilliant poem appended, on the hallucinatory sounds of the Pacific Ocean at Big Sur." - Allen Ginsberg

Would you listen to Big Sur again? Why?

No but I'm glad I did. It gives insight into a tortured soul. It reminds you that people never really change in spite of time

What other book might you compare Big Sur to and why?

    None

What about Tom Parker’s performance did you like?

    All

If you could take any character from Big Sur out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Jack Kerouac of course.

A Tale of Two Cities is one of Charles Dickens's most exciting novels. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, it tells the story of a family threatened by the terrible events of the past. Doctor Manette was wrongly imprisoned in the Bastille for 18 years without trial by the aristocratic authorities.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Tale of Two Cities [Tantor] to be better than the print version?

Yes. I find many of the classics easier to read this way. Due to the archaic language you must develop a flow to get into it.

What did you like best about this story?

Great info on the French Revolution

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't realise how many people lost their heads

One night, Peter Lake - orphan, master-mechanic, and master second-story man - attempts to rob a fortress-like mansion on the Upper West Side. Though he thinks the house is empty, the daughter of the house is home. Thus begins the affair between the middle-aged Irish burglar and Beverly Penn, a young girl who is dying. Because of a love that at first he cannot fully understand, Peter, a simple and uneducated man, will be driven "to stop time and bring back the dead".

Would you try another book from Mark Helprin and/or Oliver Wyman?

    No

What was most disappointing about Mark Helprin’s story?

The first 30 minutes in which the protagonist rides his horse onto a stage play that happens to be underway at approximately 9 am.

Which character – as performed by Oliver Wyman – was your favorite?

I don't know since I quit listening. I guess the horse

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Winter's Tale?

    See above

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.
