Patterson's latest is "a slick, vastly enjoyable thriller." Jack Mullen's relentless crusade to discover the truth behind his younger brother's death puts him into a head-on collision with one of the most powerful and ruthless men in New York. As it unfolds that his brother was involved with some of the richest women and men in America - in ways Jack never imagined - his dream of justice fades. Only if he can somehow beat the rich at their own game will he be able to avenge his brother.

I was a bit cautious to purchase it because I am a die-hard A.C. fan and now adicted to The Women's club. But I really enjoyed a change, as I am sure Mr. Patterson did writting it. Good job!

Everyone is always telling Stone Barrington that he's too smart to be a cop, but it's pure luck that places him on the streets in the dead of night, just in time to witness the horrifying incident that turns his life inside out.

    "Miss Tony Roberts"
    Overall

I started listening the the newer releases and fell in for Mr. Roberts' voice. I did not care for this gentlemen; personal preference. And he mispronounces (says it different tha Tony) Dino's last name. It was good to hear how the two started out not really invovled, he had not earned his money yet, and Dino getting married, etc. It sews things up since I started late in the series. Thanks Stuart!

  • And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic

Upon its first publication 20 years ago, And The Band Played On was quickly recognized as a masterpiece of investigatve reporting. An international best seller, a nominee for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and made into a critically acclaimed movie, Shilts' expose revealed why AIDS was allowed to spread unchecked during the early 80s while the most trusted institutions ignored or denied the threat.

ricketsj says: "Stunning, informative, well-written, but biased."
    "Wow...I had forgotten...."
    Overall

Had forgotten how incredible this story is. As everyone mentioned, I was the HBO movie and it really touched me. I was an 80’s child and remember the ‘scramble’ that the discovery caused; my mom was freaking out because she enjoyed the 70’s. :o) I was disappointed to learn about the presidents lack of concern. At least all of that has changed. It took several weeks of course. I had to stop and listen to another book for awhile; had to get away from the frank language and the denial.

These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realizes. They are being bought and sold. And it looks like a shadowy figure known as the Wolf, a master criminal who has brought a new reign of terror to organized crime, is behind this business in which ordinary men and women are sold as slaves.

I read this book when it first came out years ago. I loved it then and really enjoyed the audio version. Can't get enough of Alex!

The case explodes and FBI agent Max Siegel battles Alex for jurisdiction.

Andrea D. Thomas says: "Loved It!"
    "Alex is back"
    Overall

I really enjoyed the new book. I am glad Craig was such a big part of the book. It was tense that he was so close to Alex all of the time. I did not have an issue with the narrator, like some people. It took a couple of chapters to get used to him. I did have an issue with the ex showing up, out of the blue, and then gone again. Leave little Alex alone; poor kid.

Can't wait for the next one...will it involve Lidnsey in SF? That might be fun.

In Hot Blooded, she transports listeners into the heart of New Orleans, where a deluded murderer is on a holy quest of vengeance. Dr. Samantha Leeds hosts her own late-night radio talk-show on WSLJ. One day she receives a menacing phone call at her home, while miles away, a prostitute is strangled to death. Seemingly unrelated, nobody connects the two events until more murders occur under similar circumstances.

Andrea McLaughlin (Kindle) says: "Cold Boredom"

    Overall

I will listen to her again. I really liked it. She did well combining the differenent characters from previous 'lives' to bring them all together at a certain place and time. DID NOT see the ending coming at all....which I love in a good mystery! Well done Ms. Jackson.

Dumped by his glamorous Russian girlfriend during dinner at Elaine's, and running low on cash, Stone Barrington is having a bad week. So his luck seems to be improving when he's hired to locate the missing son of a very wealthy man - lucky because the job pays well, and because the son is hiding in the tropical paradise of Key West. But when Stone and his sometime running buddy Dino Bacchetti arrive in the sunny Keys, it appears that someone has been lying in wait.

    Sandra says: "Great Listen/Great Narrator"
    "Classic Stone & Dino!"
    Overall

I just love these two and Tony Roberts must never be replaced as the voices! I still can't get a good visual picture of what Stone looks like, but he seems to get the ladies within a few chapters, so he must be "something". :o)

    Leslie says: "What a ride!!!"
    "Decent listen"
    Overall

As most, I am addicted to J.P. I did like this book...there were parts that jumped ahead and was kind of lost. Alex's family always being a target is kind of old and I think should be left out...Janey is going to be messed up for life...maybe he should start a series for her about how she is a police officer because she has been kidnapped so many times and wants revenge on criminals. But, I am still a fan of J.P's. On to find my next Alex or Mike Bennett book!

From his grandmother, Alex Cross has heard the story of his great uncle Abraham and his struggles for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan. Now, Alex passes the family tale along to his own children in a novel he's written - a novel called Trial.

Carolyn says: "In a word ... miserable"
    "Missed Alex, but liked it."
    Overall

I grew up in the South and I have seen 'wrong doings', but I really was disturbed by what was going on in the book. I had to fast-forward through a few graphic details of hangings. I was disappointed that AC was not the subject, but it was a well written prequal to how the Cross family came to be. Obviously, NanaMamma would have been influenced by the happenings of that time and shows in other books why she is so family orientated.

It was a nice change, but really would like a great AC book like Wolf! Mr. Patterson, we need a new movie, and it can't be made with out Morgan Freeman!
