Fed up with her wild behavior, 16-year-old Lex’s parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than shoveling manure. He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach Lex the family business. She quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next.

What made the experience of listening to Croak the most enjoyable?

It was a fun story that didn't take a lot of concentration. I worked and listened to it and made the day fly by.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think Lex was my favorite character. Even though some of her antics were far fetched in the beginning of the book she turned funnier and more likeable by the end.

What does Jessica Almasy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm almost a couple decades removed from being a teen so having the teen voice in my ear made it all the more real.

  • Never Go Back: A Jack Reacher Novel, Book 18

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 43 mins)

    Story

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had. Reacher is there to meet - in person - the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone. But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

    Marci says: "Expect the Best"
"Wish I could find Reacher in the personals!"

Where does Never Go Back rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks towards the top, maybe its because I have a huge crush on Reacher. I can say that I have enjoyed all but one of his books.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I did figure out who was on what side but not the whole scenario...As with most Lee Child books, at least for me, I never know who's the ring leader of all the chaos.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I am always amazed at how believable Dick Hill is, whether it is a male or female voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extremes but it was exciting. I finished it in under two day and now I have to wait another year.

Her visions have helped solve crimes; her instincts have helped find missing people; she can predict future events and sense your thoughts. These are some of the extraordinary gifts that define the remarkable Allison DuBois, the real-life medium, wife, and mother whose life is the inspiration for the hit NBC television series Medium.

    Bradley says: "The Real Psychic"
"She should have splurged on a Narrator."
    Overall

I couldn't even finish it. I read the book and it was ok but that was after I tried to listen to it. All I could hear when I read it was Allison DuBois' nasally voice haunting me.
