In his eye-opening new book, Perv, the award-winning columnist and psychologist Jesse Bering argues that we are all sexual deviants on one level or another. As Bering takes us into the lives of a woman who falls madly in love with the Eiffel Tower, a young man addicted to seductive sneezes, and a pair of deeply affectionate identical twins, among others, he challenges us to move beyond our judgments and attitudes toward "deviant" sex and consider the alternative: What would happen if we rise above our fears and revulsions and accepted our true natures?

    Any additional comments?

This book is really a definition of terms and an explanation of how we came to such labels. The performance is good enough, but the content is boring.

Lieutenant Commander Matthew Reddy and the crew of the USS Walker find themselves caught between the nation they swore to defend and the allies they promised to protect. For even as the Allies and the Empire of New Britain Isles stand united against the attacks of both the savage Grik and the tenacious Japanese, the "Holy Dominion" - a warped mixture of human cultures whose lust for power overshadows even the Grik - is threatening to destroy them both with a devastating weapon neither can withstand.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. I want to make the story last but this is one of the series that I have a difficult time putting down. I appreciate this series as a very nice change of pace. At this point in the series, I/m invested in the characters, there's plenty of action and some nice plot twists.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

The Great War changed everything and the years following it were tumultuous - most of all for those who lived the war first-hand. Maugham himself is a character in this novel of self-discovery and search for meaning, but the protagonist is a character named Larry. Battered physically and spiritually by the war, Larry's physical wounds heal, but his spirit is changed almost beyond recognition.

I felt compelled to write a review because I wanted to counter the one above - to offer a different perspective. I appreciate that this book was moving to some; however, I found this book to be boring and the narrator annoying. I didn't finish it.

My first experience with Murakami was listening to Kafka on the Shore and I was pretty disappointed. When I saw this on sale, I decide to give him a second chance and I am glad I did. If someone would have given me a brief description of the content of these short stories, I would have passed on this too. But, I am so glad I didn't. These stories stirred me in a way that very few books have.

I purchased this book for the last five minutes - the affirmations. They are great and I listen to them daily. But, the rest of the book is much less compelling.

Michael McGill is a burned-out private detective who suddenly becomes enlisted by an army of presidential goons to retrieve the Constitution of the United States, but not the one we all know about. This would be the real Constitution (the one with invisible amendments), created by some of the Founding Fathers as a fall back for their great experiment.

It's has been a few month since I have listened to this book and it has stuck with me like few books have. Sometimes I laugh out loud, others I almost gag. This book was an experience. Good, bad and ugly. I would highly recommend this book if you have a sense of humor and aren't easily offended - well, even if you aren't easily offended this book will probably test your limits. I remember exactly where I was driving when I actually gagged because of a disgusting sexual perversion described in the book. So, in all fairness, be careful because this book is graphic and pretty hardcore - but if you can keep it in perspective - it is a pretty good experience. I have been excitedly - but cautiously - waiting for the next novel.

The setting is Hong Kong, 1963. The action spans scarcely more than a week, but these are the days of high adventure, from kidnapping and murder to financial double-dealing and natural catastrophes: fire, flood, and landslide. Yet they are days filled as well with all the mystery and romance of Hong Kong, the heart of Asia, rich in every trade: money, flesh, opium, power.
