  • Knit One, Kill Two: A Knitting Mystery, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Maggie Sefton
    • Narrated By Jane Jacobs
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kelly Flynn never picked up a pair of knitting needles she liked—until she strolled into House of Lambspun. Now, in the first in a brand-new series, she learns how to knit one, purl two, and untangle the mystery behind her aunt's murder.

Kim says: "Give us more Sefton"
    "Give us more Sefton"

I have read all of Maggie Sefton's 'cozy mysteries', which serve up a view of the Colorado countryside, small town life, the knitting culture and telecommuter craze. Please give us more!

  • Ladies' Night

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Mary Kay Andrews
    • Narrated By Kathleen McInerney
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Grace Stanton’s life as a rising media star and beloved lifestyle blogger takes a surprising turn when she catches her husband cheating and torpedoes his pricey sports car straight into the family swimming pool. Grace suddenly finds herself locked out of her palatial home, checking account, and even the blog she has worked so hard to develop in her signature style. Moving in with her widowed mother, who owns and lives above a rundown beach bar called The Sandbox, is less than ideal. So is attending court-mandated weekly "divorce recovery" therapy sessions with three other women and one man for whom betrayal seems to be the only commonality. When their “divorce coach” starts to act suspiciously, they decide to start having their own Wednesday "Ladies' Night" sessions at The Sandbox, and the unanticipated bonds that develop lead the members of the group to try and find closure in ways they never imagined. Can Grace figure out a new way home and discover how strong she needs to be to get there?

JenniferandSteveLandeau says: "Man I thought my divorce was the worst!"
"Raises Victimhood to an art form"

I couldn't finish this book. the protagonist is such a victim, I just wanted to shake her and yell 'snap out of it.' I usually enjoy this author, but this story line was just too much to swallow.

  • Princess Elizabeth's Spy: A Maggie Hope Mystery, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Susan Elia MacNeal
    • Narrated By Susan Duerden
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Susan Elia MacNeal introduced the remarkable Maggie Hope in her acclaimed debut, Mr. Churchill's Secretary. Now Maggie returns to protect Britain's beloved royals against an international plot - one that could change the course of history. As World War II sweeps the continent and England steels itself against German attack, Maggie Hope, former secretary to Prime Minister Winston Churchill, completes her training to become a spy for MI-5.

    A. Dyer says: "Bring back Wanda McCaddon as narrator"
    "Narrator drove me crazy!"

I couldn't get past the first 15 minutes of this book, due to the narrator's infuriating habit of completing every sentence with the uplift of a question. Every sentence? Every conversation? Every description of scenery or statement of fact? You see how annoying that can be when you are reading; try listening to it for more than a minute or two.

Sadly, I loved the first book by this author. I will probably purchase this second book in print so I can read it in peace. I tried to return this book (Audible says you can do this if you're really unhappy) but was not allowed to because I purchase credits.

Don't waste your credit on this narrator. Buy the written book instead.

  • Burnt Mountain

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Anne Rivers Siddons
    • Narrated By Kate Reading

Growing up, the only place tomboy Thayer Wentworth felt at home was at her summer camp - Camp Sherwood Forest in the North Carolina Mountains. It was there that she came alive and where she met Nick Abrams, her first love...and first heartbreak.

A User says: "Not so great"
"Not up to Siddons' usual caliber"

The heroine was whiney and annoying, the plot was implausible (more so than usual) and this novel simply fell short of Anne Rivers Siddons usual professionalism. Very disappointed.

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs)
    • By Laura Hillenbrand
    • Narrated By Edward Herrmann
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

    Janice says: "Indescribable"
"The best book I've read in a decade"

I have listened to hundreds of Audible books--and read many hundreds more-- but this is my all time favorite. I found myself crying for joy at the end of this truly amazing story, and have subsequently given it to my three sisters with similar response. Laura Hillenbrand tells this story with compassion and insight, offering an objective view of the factors that create and sustain a hero. What an inspiration, what a life, and what a joy to be a part of it through this Audible book!

  • Still Life

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By Louise Penny
    • Narrated By Ralph Cosham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it's nothing more than a tragic hunting accident, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods.

    Sydney says: "a gentle mystery"
"A tremendous book, a wonderful series!"

This may be my favorite 'cozy mystery' series of all times. Louis Penny has created a set of characters that live and breath and beg for multiple sequels. Her insightful observations about human nature combine with witty dialog and complex characters to create a world I never want to leave. I have read this series over and over again and the magic still hasn't worn off.

  • The Thing About Jane Spring

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Sharon Krum
    • Narrated By Pamela Dillman

The thing about Jane Spring 31, she has everything a woman could ask for and seemingly everything a man could long for - great legs, brains, rising star status in the Manhattan D.A.'s office - but she just can't find a man who'll fall madly in love with her. Men are always asking her out, but for some reason no one wants a second date.

Jody says: "A very silly book"
    "Delightful and unexpected"

I am a big fan of Doris Day movies, so I guess it should have come as no surprise that I loved this book. I was impressed with the narrator's ability to change styles faster than Jane herself, and loved the innocent recasting of 'all things Doris'. This book was a relaxing and delightful read that helped me through hours of housework and drudgery!

  • A Dirty Job

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Christopher Moore
    • Narrated By Fisher Stevens
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

    colleen says: "I loved it!"
    "a new favorite"

Christopher Moore is my new favorite author. A Dirty Job is one of the funniest books I've read in years, but it's also insightful. The author manages to inject the book with a sense of humanity along with his finely tuned sense of irony. I only wish Audible carried more of his books in their recorded collection!

  • Plum Lucky

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Janet Evanovich
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Janet Evanovich is at it again! This time, Diesel makes an appearance just after Valentine's Day in order to turn Stephanie's world upside down. Filled with all the characters you know and love from the Burg, including Lula, Grandma Mazur, Connie, Ranger, Joe, Tank, Valerie, and Albert Kloughn, Plum Lucky is a can't-miss bestseller for Janet Evanovich's legion of fans.

    S says: "very entertaining"
"not up to the Stephanie standard"

I love the Stephanie Plum books; unfortunately, this wasn't nearly up to the usual standard. Oh sure, all of the old characters are here, but the plot seemed forced, the jokes fell a little flat, and who the heck is Deisel? I want Ranger and Morelli back, along with the old Stephanie sass.
