Nessa Dahl lives a sensible life – until, that is, Jeremiah MacNaught comes to town and enlists her help to investigate a string of bank robberies. Only Mac realizes that beneath Nessa’s no-nonsense exterior exists an outlaw spirit, and between them burns a passion far hotter than a sultry summer night. But when she discovers that the handsome investigator is undercover, lying to her about his identity and convinced she’s involved with the crimes, he’ll learn what thigh high in trouble really means….

    Story

Who doesn't love a story of love, betrayal and steamy elevator scenes? The narration was so dull. Every male character had a raspy old voice and it was hard to tell them apart. This book takes place in Chicago and NO CHICAGO ACCENTS! The mob characters sound like New Yorkers. If you can get past all that, the story keeps you involved and entertained.

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Charlaine Harris has won numerous awards for her Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series, which has been adapted into the hit HBO show True Blood. In this 13th and final book, a murder rocks the town of Bon Temps and Sookie is arrested for the crime. After making bail, she sets out to clear her name - but her investigation only leads to more deaths.

    Story

I have fallen in love with Sookie Stackhouse and I thank Charlane Harris for such an amazing series. I am very disappointed with this last book. I almost feel like this book had a deadline so a few writers just compiled the safest ending just to get the series done with and onto the next.

    SPOILER ALERT:
I understand that in this ending Sookie "got what she always wanted". To be as normal. Her and Sam hooking up is a great ending. I am happy with that.

I am not happy with her and Eric's departure. There was so much drama between them and two days of eating junk food on the couch erases all of her passion for him. How about Eric's kin in her back yard for a year, Sookie is cool with that?

What about Bill? Lame ending with Alcide? The demons were interesting but come on, the whole scene with Tyrese Marley just was so farfetched even for this series. I repeat myself when I say I feel like different writers were given pieces to write and then were blended together. It just didn't work.

Sookie came into a FORTUNE from her Great Grandfather, then not one mention of how she plans to live after this great inheritance. Just a tear-filled "Oh my gosh".

I have read the entire series again for starting the last book. There was just a different feel to this one. It just felt messy.

I express my gratitude to Ms. Harris for such a wonderful series and such exciting and loveable/hate-able characters. I just feel like she missed the mark on this book. I am very sorry to say so because I do have a lot of respect for her, she is great writer.

If you could sum up Ask and It Is Given, Volume 1 in three words, what would they be?

    simple, easy-to-follow, a gift

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jerry Hicks?

Anyone but Jerry Hicks. I am so sorry to say that because I love the work both him and Esther do. Jerry read the book in monotone and like it were a run on sentence. I did enjoy Esther's reading, you could really feel the passion behind the words. She stressed the words that you needed to pay attention to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I am familiar with their work so this is nothing new to me.When I need a referesher or I feel like I am falling off the path I want to be on, I will re-read or re-listen to the book. It has helped me manifest many succeses in my life and career.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

What did you like best about this story?

    Amy's diary.

What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Julia does a superb job! I love the way the she reads in different tones for all of "Amy's characters" while still being recognized as Amy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not for the first two parts, you need a little time to think about what has happened and appreciate how clever this book is.

    Any additional comments?

I demand a re-write for the end. That just sucked! The story was so detailed so many twists, so unpredictable. You couldn't even guess what was coming next. Then the third part... rush rush rush. It felt like Ms. Flynn was told she had to fit 25,000 words into a 1000 word essay. The end could have been so much better had there been more substance to it. I guess she left an opening for another book, maybe. I just couldnt believe that was it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I started this book and ended this book in just a few days. If I didn't have to work or take care of kids, I would have listened all at once.

    Any additional comments?

I started with my Sookie Stackhouse addiction by watching True Blood on HBO. After the 5th season ended, I just couldn't wait to find out more about my BFF Sookie. So I started with this book. #1. I am really happy I did. The book and True Blood are very similar, but I really love the book more. You get inside of Sookie's head. You know what she is thinking. There are not nearly as many side stories which I like, less confusing. I just really am in love with Sookie and you will be to after listening to this book.
