In this tense, riveting mind game, New York Times bestselling novelist Nelson DeMille delivers a suspenseful short story in the tradition of his classic military novels The General's Daughter and Word of Honor. A band of soldiers in its last month of service in Vietnam goes out on a patrol through enemy territory with a female sniper in its path. Recounting the mission in shattering and sometimes gruesome detail, DeMille creates a concise masterpiece of moody suspense.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. I know it was meant to be short, but it was too short. You have no time to develop feelings for any of the characters. I also didn't have time to get too into it before it was over.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nelson DeMille again?

Oh yes, but only because this was not the first of his that I have read! I hope that others do not choose to hear this as your first DeMille experience, then they might not go back, which would be a tragedy for them.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Only one scene in the whole book to choose from! Haha

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Stick to the full novels, this just isn't worth it unless you specifically only have a couple of hours to hear something.

If you could sum up Plum Island in three words, what would they be?

    Exciting, Funny, and Entertaining.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love John Corey in all his books. He is sarcastic and very funny. I never tire of his wit and jokes. But I did really love Emma Whitestone, she was a nice change of pace from DeMille's regular characters.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard him before.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but I mustn't say for fear of someone reading this before listening to the book. It would spoil it. However, I am sure other readers can guess what broke my heart!

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed Plum Island, though it is not even close to being one of DeMille's best. Nothing negative to say at all, just that there are even better of his out there. Up country, CHARM SCHOOL, and Night Fall to name a few. If you liked this, you will LOVE those.

Would you listen to Written in Red again? Why?

Yes, but only because I am waiting for my next credit to arrive. It was a very entertaining and fun story. The characters are well developed. I will look forward to the next book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Winter and Tess. Both characters were hard to please and a little scary until they decided that they liked Meg, then they were both very fun to watch and see what they would do next. Always afraid something bad would happen and they would become difficult again.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Meg decided to go to the pet store and get things for Sam. I basically enjoyed all interactions between those two.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really, the story is pretty light and not heart stopping or jaw dropping. It will not make you feel like crying or laughing out loud. It is simply easy entertainment.

    Any additional comments?

The author is a bit redundant. I noticed that several times in the book she would use the same three lines. Over and over and over. I will let readers discover these for themselves. I wish she would have switched up the language a bit. Also the book was a little slow going. Perhaps I was distracted but I did not get fully interested until about chapter 4 or 5. I urge others that experience this to keep listening because yes, it does get much better! Once Sam and Meg begin interacting the story really picks up and is great from there on out. I was also VERY bored by every scene containing all of the police officers. They were boring and did nothing at all for the story. Other than that, great read overall.
