The USS Kentucky - a Trident ballistic missile submarine carrying a full complement of 192 nuclear warheads - sets out on a routine cruise. Not long after it reaches the open sea, however, the Kentucky receives a launch order. After receiving that launch order, it is cut off from all counter orders and disappears into the Pacific while it makes the eight-day transit to the launch site. What the Kentucky's crew doesn't know is that those launch orders didn't come from the US government.

    Story
Where does The Trident Deception rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my favorites. I have been looking for another good submarine adventure since listening to Larry Bond's Cold Choices and Dangerous Ground. Those are 2 of my favorite audio books and now this one joins the list.

What did you like best about this story?

The in depth knowledge of submarines is fascinating. The book manages to have both non-stop action and real character development.

Which character – as performed by Peter Ganim – was your favorite?

    Lt Tom Wilson

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is a time when the officers on the sub have to decide if their moral compass or their oath to the US Navy will determine their actions. I found that very believable - with no right or wrong answer.

    Any additional comments?

Lovers of Larry Bond's Jerry Mitchell books need to run - not walk - to listen to this book!
