I've got one word for you...Hot!
I jumped into this book after reading one that had my head shaking and disappointment welling.
It's hard to find a good short read with some power to it. More often than not, if an audio book is under 5 hours it just leaves you feeling like there's something missing. I've read two of Jayne Rylon's short books now and I have been pleased with them both. I spent just about 3 1/2 hours on this book and I feel fully satisfied.
The story was engaging and very well created. I loved the characters and the world created and it's made my re-read list. The narration was also fabulous and I look forward to more.
The worlds that Julie create are exquisitely layered and complex. It is easy to forget where you are now and get completely lost in the stories. Julie has outdone herself in The Immortal Rules and should be at the top of your must read list this summer.
Taking on he assumption that our female lead has gotten to know the guys over some time, you can buy into "Love" after less than 24 hours of them getting together. I think that Paulin should consider revamping the story. It seemed a little dated with some of the odd choices in vocabulary.
She most certainly needs a new narrator. I use noise canceling ear buds when I listen to books and this audio book was well below sub-par. The narrator was one of the worst I've listened to. There was no voice inflections between the narrative and the characters and the "he said" and "she said" was the only way to tell who just spoke.
This book was sad, sexy, happy and such a great read. Sparks keeps getting better and better with each book in this series.
The world she has cultivated over the years is believable and steady. It has not veered far off form its beginnings and I love the books for that. I very much look forward to reading about Zoltan in the next book.
Some of the Narrators chosen for the Love At Stake books have been hit and miss. This was definitely a hit! I had no problems knowing who was talking. Good story and good narrator makes a great listen!
I have always LOVED Laurann Dohner’s New Species series. It is probably my favorite book series to date. I was very excited to see it available for audio because sometimes, I just don’t have the time to set down with a book.
I think that a better Narrator could have been chosen for this series however. Sometimes she will change her voice when it’s only a thought or feeling and you don’t know until a few words or a sentence later that the character didn’t actually say that only thought it or felt it.
If you haven’t read the books before I would recommend reading them before listening to them with this narrator. I would have only given the books 3-4 stars based on the audio, but all except 3 of the 10 (almost 11) book series has gotten 5 stars from me. The books are a lot more passionate and exciting than this narrator can convey.
I would get an Ali Ahn performed book if I've already read it and must have it on audio. There is room for improvement in her performances.
