Maddy Wainright has given up on marriage - and men. After dating way too many losers who aren't capable of appreciating her for who she is, she's about ready to resign herself to a life of spinsterhood. Until her insanely rich boss Daniel Thorne comes along with an offer she simply can't refuse. He proposes a marriage of convenience - one that would allow Maddy to live in the lap of luxury for a year and Mr. Thorne to stay in the country that has become his home. At the end of their arrangement, Maddy will walk away with a cool two million dollars.

The performance itself was very good but seeing as I consume so many of these types of books, the story has to be able to stand out for me to enjoy it. There isn't anything that stands out as bad though, I simply didn't enjoy it.

After years of bad relationships and a cheating ex-fiancé, 28-year-old Mia Martinelli prefers healing her patients' hearts on the Cardiac Care floor rather than risking having her heart broken again. But that all comes to a screeching halt when caring for the head roadie for Runaway Train puts her into the orbit of drummer and Latin lover A. J. Resendiz. After a scorching weekend of steamy passion, Mia's intention of getting out with her heart unscathed is challenged by the stud with the wicked sense of humor, especially when he wants to continue seeing her.

If you can accept that a woman is prone to suffer from low self esteem after getting emotionally kicked to the curb and the manifestations of said self-esteem aren't a pet peeve of yours to read about, this is a great book. Unfortunately, I know a lot of people would be turned off from this book for that alone because it can be frustrating to watch someone sabotage their happiness due to low self-esteem. It wasn't unbearable and because it wasn't without cause, I didn't mind it. Instead, I was happy to read about some very intense sexual encounters, the breakdown of walls, and the happily ever after that was long overdue.

Indy Savage is a former wild child (okay, maybe not so "former") and current used-bookstore owner. Lee Nightingale is a former bad boy and now runs a private investigation service. Toss together a quiet barista with a not-so-lawful side-business, a crazy Vietnam Vet, a pothead, a drag queen, family and friends who will not mind their own business, a few stun guns, and a bag of diamonds, and mix them all up with some shootings, a high-speed chase and car bombs exploding, then hang on for your first wild Rock Chick ride.

Fun story about the pain and embarrassment of unrequited love, a series of misfortune events, adapting to new circumstances, and the awesomeness of great friends. The only downside about this book is the suspension of reality required to accept that a person can walk away from so many close calls.

Lucky Morgan has had her share of heartbreak. She is devastated when her boyfriend dumps her after sleeping with him, and she vows to herself that she won't be used again. Zane Beaumont is a mysterious and snooty guy that comes into her diner every Friday night, always with a different girl. He's the type of guy she has learned to avoid: carefree, fast, handsome, rich, and sarcastic. Unfortunately, she can't stop thinking about the devilish gleam in his eyes.

My biggest complaint is that it is completely illogical. I mean my brain was screaming "WHAT THE HELL?" the whole time I was reading. You can't connect to characters, or a story for that matter, if their actions or responses make no sense. The dudes seem to exhibit multiple personality disorder yet she continues to hang out with them. She withdraws from school during her last semester to take a job working for Dude A which requires her to travel across the country the very next day (this is a decision made in a manner of seconds, btw). Huh???? They don't really know each other, he acts like a total chauvinist and even manhandles her and she's willing to drop out of school for some job she knows virtually nothing about?

I did not finish this book. I listened to it for a couple of hours and was practically bored to tears. The narrator's delivery was rather flat and she kept say "vagley" instead of vaguely, it drove me nuts. Then it got to the point where something was stated that completely contradicted something stated earlier and I was done.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who has no qualms with cheating and abuse of power

What could Kyra Davis have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Taken a different direction after Part 1

Would you listen to another book narrated by Grace Grant?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

All over the board but mostly just apathy

    Any additional comments?

I just did not like the direction this story took after Part I. It kept spiraling into a bigger mess and the whole "the people with power make the rules" thing was uncomfortable to listen to.

When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gate-crashes a pro-athlete party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL's most beloved quarterback. While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire, Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and she has more important things to worry about than romance—like her parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law school.

The chance encounters seem very serendipitous but otherwise it's a romance where the progression makes sense. They're immensely attracted to one another but are immediate adversaries following their initial encounter. This is not a cinderella story where the rich guy lavishes gifts upon her (although their dates aren't cheap) and there aren't a whole lot of sex scenes other than two turning point scenes.

The narrator did a great job and made the character sound both grounded and fun.

When I solicited him to model for my erotic photography book, I didn't expect such a heated, passionate photo session. And now that we've crossed that line, our bodies aren't the only things that have been exposed."

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Anti-climatic? I mean it was a good ending but I prefer endings that give you more of a look into a HEA. It was probably a more realistic ending though so I guess I can't complain too much.

    Any additional comments?

The book definitely took a different direction from what I expected based upon its description. It was good but oddly "deep". I thought the focus of the book would be on the romance but it was more so about the main character coming to terms with certain aspects of herself and her life.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

While a narrator change makes sense due to the shift to a male perspective, it was annoying. I had grown to like the voices used in the past three books (including the male ones performed by the female narrator). Also, the story really doesn't compare to the first three. You get the happy ending that was missing but I just couldn't get into the story that much.
