The Namesake follows the Ganguli family through its journey from Calcutta to Cambridge to the Boston suburbs. When their son is born, the task of naming him betrays the vexed results of bringing old ways to the new world. Named for a Russian writer by his Indian parents in memory of a catastrophe years before, Gogol Ganguli knows only that he suffers the burden of his heritage as well as his odd, antic name.

Ok, this book doesn't go as far as Roots did, but it's a beautiful read none the less. I LOVED every word!

In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Nick says: "An entertaining, yet unfortunate story."
"I want to like this more than I actually do"
    Overall

THis poor book. I actually feel kind of sorry for it. It means to be funny, but it somehow falls flat. It's like reading the transcript of your favorite show. There's no doubt in my mind that this is a hilarious stage show. It just doesn't do much in the book department - even with the author reading it. I LOVE Carrie Fisher and will go see her show Wishful Drinking if it comes to my town. THis book is a better value if checked out from the library.

In 1912 a four-year-old boy named Bobby Dunbar went missing in a swamp in Louisiana. Eight months later, he was found in the hands of a wandering handyman in Mississippi. In 2004 his granddaughter discovered a secret beneath the legend of her grandfather's kidnapping, a secret whose revelation would divide her own family, bring redemption to another, and become the answer to a third family's century-old prayer. We devote our entire episode to the story.

This as a quick listen that I really enjoyed. I've LOVED Madonna for years but this book comes as no suprise. IT's always interesting to get the "inside scoop" on the life of a famous person. I can understand why this book was at once painful and cathartic for Christopher to write. Here's to a job well done!

  • What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception

Scott McClellan belonged to President Bush's select inner circle of trusted advisers during one of the most challenging, contentious periods of recent history. Over a period of more than seven years, he witnessed, day-to-day, exactly how the presidency veered off course, not only by its decision to topple Saddam Hussein, but by an embrace of confrontational politics in the face of an increasingly partisan Washington and a hostile media.

Frank J. Regan says: "Something is Missing"
    "I LOVED this book!"
    Overall

I expected to hate this book. I assumed that it would be full of floss and excuses for the past 4 years. Instead McClellan comes off as a wholely likable guy who got caught up in some nasty stuff. Fully human and flawed he offer a picture of the president and the press not usually seen. I'm a life long Democrat. I come away from this work seeing Bush as pitiful and sad and all too human. I LOVED this book and highly recommend it! God Bless you Scott McClelan

The last decade of Cannie's life has brought some surprises. Her life story, in fictional form, became an unexpected best-seller, and Cannie has since choosen to retreat from fame's fallout, writing science fiction under a pen name. Her daughter, Joy, has descended into the throes of moody adolescence, just in time for her bat mitzvah.

David and Shoshana Cooper says: "Not nearly as good as first book"
    "Liked not loved this book."
    Overall

I love Jennifer Weiner and anxiously awaited this work. I liked the book, but did not fall in love the same way I did with Good In Bed. Jen is still one of my favorite authors and this book is NOT a miss. It's not a dead on hit either. I laughed. I cried. I was thrilled to find out what happened to everyone. It's just that this book had a certain almost melancholy tone that didn't really sit well with me.

I'll keep reading JW and i'm glad that I read this book.

In this wickedly honest new work, Chelsea Handler casts the net wider with even funnier results, recalling the most noteworthy highs and lows of her life to date - including her efforts to diversify by dating red-haired men, her obsession with midgets, and the dog-sitting interlude in which her boyfriend became overly familiar with a Peekapoo.

I loved this book! I had to quit reading it on the bus because I found myself laughing out loud! Chelsea reminds me of a young Kathy Griffin.
