I'd read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it, but was a bit hesitant to get the audio book for the second in the series. It not only measured up to the first book, but the reader was excellent. I really like Sarah's character, she's far from perfect (and it shows), and the side characters certainly were engrossing. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. This book is really well suited to audio, which many books aren't.
Waste of time.
Unlike a lot of the reviews, I thought the narrator was good. The book however was not. If this guy is supposed to be some crackerjack detective, he's got a funny way of showing it.
I've never met a man who is so given to all the supposedly deep thoughts (of course they're all about the icky main female character, Elise)he has. I think maybe he's supposed to be a tortured conflicted detective, but it just doesn't work. He sounds like a woman, not a man. Sandra Brown should have just had a female detective, however then she wouldn't have had all those weird out of place sex scenes in the book.
This is the second book of Sandra Brown's I have listened to (what was I thinking?), and while this one was better than the other one I listened to, it wasn't by much.
The reader was okay which is the only reason I gave it any stars at all. The characters were, in general, very unlikeable, very unbelievable and I found myself cheering every time one got killed. Too bad they didn't kill off the main character in the beginning so we didnt' have to listen to her whine her way through 13 hours.
The whiney main character jumps from one lousy, farfetched decision to another. You could easily tell what was going to come next, and you knew it was going to be the wrong thing that she did. This book reminded me of one of those teen horror shows "no Julie, don't run out the door, into the dark stormy night, the serial killer is out there". Maybe I wouldn't have noticed it so much had I read it rather than listened to it.
This is easily the worst book I've listened to this year. I listened to the whole thing because I've really liked other books by Sandra Brown and I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't.
