I think Ian's story is the best romance ever; I think Elliot's story was just slightly #2. But the ick factor of Daniel's story was just too much. I finished it thinking it had to eventually have something I would enjoy. It did not. Sorry.
This is a fun series. Books 12 and 13 just came out and are great. But read in order, it will make a difference in your enjoyment. The best: Justice is #1, Fury #2 and until Darkness, Valiant was #3. A couple were not good (Obsidian and Shadow) and a couple finished strong but started weak (Moon and Brawn). But Laurann's males keep me reading and rereading. The reader gets a little valley girl in the early books but calms down as the books progress. Enjoy!
I love this series. Darkness will tie with Valient for #3 best. Justice #1, Fury #2. (But read them in order!) There were a few books that were not good (Obsidian and Shadow) and a few that were weak (Brawn and Moon) but they all ended strong. The way Laurann writes the male part is what keeps me reading and rereading. Darkness returns to a stronger heroine and tortured hero. Reader calmed down her valley girl impression of some of the books. Enjoy!
This was so highly recommended, as is the series. If you enjoy the history, rather than the romance, you will enjoy this. I didn't.
It seemed Ms. Quick wanted to write a Victorian murder mystery but knows you have to input a romance, so she threw in two unremarkable sex scenes in odd places and done. There wasn't a single bit of sexual tension, which is much more important. I used to love Ms. Quick's quirky heroines and dark heroes. This heroine tried to be quirky but the hero felt like a school boy, whether by the writing or the reader, I wasn't sure. This is a very lightweight romance, if that is your type.
The story: Marry me? I can't marry you. Over and over and over ....
I love a good romance but there has to be action to the story as well. This was too much thinking, discussing, agonizing . . . and I did not connect with the heroine's reason to stay away.
I dislike the vampire/werewolf series and was hesitant about this one. But there are all sorts of creatures and I loved that. Dragon, griffin, fairy, gargoyle, etc. The "world-building" is not so detailed as to annoy like so many of them. I enjoyed from page 1. The romance is steamy and enjoyable. The f-bomb is annoying, and may turn some romance readers off. I loved the characters (who doesn't want a dragon; women are strong). Great series. Give it a try.
Makes the girl voices sound silly.
Tries to include humor in exactly the wrong spots, and it never works. Actively disliked the ending to the second book. Deleted the third.
I usually LOVE Kleypas. I liked the hero but I just couldn't care about the heroine. I know I was supposed to feel sorry for what had happened to her but something about her behavior kept me from caring. Not my favorite.
