The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have already recommended this book to several friends who I know LOVE a good story. This isn't a clean or neat story, just like life it is messy and scary and happy and good. Pulitzer Prize winner for a reason

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Nothing! Excellent narration, the switch in character's voices was masterful.

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend. I'm always on the lookout for a good book and often feel a little sad when I finish one. This is one of those books.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Have you ever read a book that continues in your thoughts even when not reading it or when it's over? This is that book. I am so engrossed in thoughts about this book. I have never been to India physically, but after reading Shanatram, I feel I've been there in spirit. The author has a tremendous ability to describe the 'behind the scenes' view of Bombay/Mumbai. The characters are rich and complex.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Prabaker. After reading, you'll understand. The brilliance of his innocense and simplicity.

    Which scene was your favorite?

All scenes that took place at Lin's home in the slums.

If you could rename Shantaram, what would you call it?

    Heartbreak India

    Any additional comments?

Simply - I didn't want it to end.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

If you could sum up 11-22-63 in three words, what would they be?

    addicting, enveloping, entertaining

What does Craig Wasson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This narrator was awesome. He brought each and every character to life. His ability to change voice for different characters was genius. His adaptation for age, sex, race, accent - fantastic.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

suspend disbelief, you're about to fall in love with the past....

    Any additional comments?

Even though I was born in 1974, this book made me feel as if I lived in 1959 - 1963. Somehow I miss that simpler time?!? He is a masterful author. This book is truly a gem.

If Ridley Jones had slept 10 minutes later or had taken the subway instead of waiting for a cab, she would still be living the beautiful lie she used to call her life. She would still be the privileged daughter of a doting father and a loving mother. Her life would still be perfect, with only the tiny cracks of an angry junkie for a brother and a charming drunk with shady underworld connections for an uncle to mar the otherwise flawless whole.

What disappointed you about Beautiful Lies?

The story was so-so. The narrator was great. A really fantastic voice brought to the main character Ridley. Just sort of a cheesy romance novel mixed with a little thriller and intrigue. Somewhat simple plot line. I give it a C+. I wish I'd rented from the library rather than pay for it.

Has Beautiful Lies turned you off from other books in this genre?

I hope not. I LOVE a good thriller. Purchased after I read the critics reviews. Not always helpfull.

Which character – as performed by Ann Marie Lee – was your favorite?

All - she is an excellent narrator!!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I sort of just wanted to get to the end. It was easy to see how the story would unfold. No specific emotion - frustration?!?
