Four young women have been found murdered—tortured and strangled in their own beds—all victims of the same brilliant monster. Using a skilled hand and the latest technology in forensic medicine, Kay Scarpetta begins the process of gathering the microscopic clues the latest battered body has to give.

If you could sum up Postmortem in three words, what would they be?

    Great story line

How could the performance have been better?

It could have been read by someone else. C.J. Critt is terrible. I've read all the Scarpetta novels in print, and wanted to revisit them via audio book since I now have a long commute. After noticing that Critt narrates the first half of the entire series, I'm looking for other books. I can't possibly understand why this person was chosen to read these books. She should save her voice for reading to her own children, bless their tiny ears.

Fans of the #1 bests eller Sh*t My Dad Says will recognize the always patient voice of Justin Halpern's dad as it crackles through this hysterical new audiobook. The story begins when Justin announces that he's decided to propose to his girlfriend. "You've been dating her for four years," his dad replies. "It ain't like you found a parallel fucking universe."

Jay says: "Funny but nowhere like the the first book."

Who was your favorite character and why?

I realize the father is supposed to be the highlight, but I found the way Justin told the story and his own additions to be funnier than the quotes from the father.

What does Sean Schemmel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration is great, except for his "girl voices." These made me cringe. I would have rather he just read the female parts in his own voice, rather than sounding like a man doing a church-lady voice. It was awkward and I thought really took away from those moments.

From an award-winning New York Times investigative reporter comes an outrageous story of greed, corruption, and conspiracy, which left the FBI and Justice Department counting on the cooperation of one man.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was a good story that I'm happy to have more knowledge of; however, the actual act of listening to it was painful at times.

What other book might you compare The Informant to and why?

Devil in the White City. Both stories are told in more of a "news article" fashion that an actual story.

How could the performance have been better?

This narrator pronounces the 'H' in words such as "what," "where," "when" and so on. It is incredibly distracting, and extremely annoying. I also felt like he did not read the book before the recording. His inflection was off in so many areas, that I often found myself repeating a line he had just read in my own head, with proper inflection, just to make sense of the situation. He seems to only have two variations of his voice - deep, gruff 'mafia' style, and high pitched 'suck up' style. Oh, and he tries to do an Asian and German accent at times, and it's terrible. It makes me wonder if anyone even auditioned this guy. I will probably also physically read the book, because I found his style so distracting and hard to follow.

Do you think The Informant needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No. It is non-fiction.

    Any additional comments?

I am more than 20 hours into the audio, and the narrator's voice still disrupts my experience (I have found other narrators distracting at times, but as I got further into the book I noticed it less and less). He really ruins this story.

A serial killer is stalking Virginia’s young lovers, taking their lives and taunting police with a single clue: a jack of hearts. For two years, the meaning of this card has eluded FBI investigators. But as Scarpetta begins searching the victims’ remains for microscopic clues, she begins to suspect that someone in the FBI knows more about the murderer.

Would you try another book from Patricia Cornwell and/or C. J. Critt?

Cornwell - yes. Critt - NO

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Boring, predictable.

How could the performance have been better?

It could have been read by someone else. Critt takes pauses that are so long, I have checked numerous times to see if my device has died. Her voice for Benton is absurd - some snarky, angry-at-the-world jerk that snaps every word he says. Not Benton at all. And for god's sake, does she have the mic shoved in her mouth or does she breathe abnormally loud? Disgusting.

What made the experience of listening to Body of Evidence the most enjoyable?

Nothing. Narrator is like listening to seals being clubbed, but slower and with louder breathes.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lorelei King?

Kate [forget last name] who narrates the later books. Wish they had used her from the beginning.
