I give it an 8 only because I think it would have benefited from readings by various voices. Though this narrator was very good and played the characters well, the story is so intricate that at times I had to go back and re-listen to some parts that I missed along the way.
Loved Marian -- not only strong, but a "class act" as a devoted sister, loving friend and intuitive thinker.
He played the characters as well as he could, but I would rather have had the characters read by different narrators.
It would give the story away.
I loved the book and its many twists and turns. And I loved the way the author chose to tell it from so many points of view -- my favorite literary device. Wilkie is clearly a master storyteller and it kept me busily listening for many enjoyable hours.
Great story, riveting performances -- a great experience all around. Another "Gone Girl." Loved it!
Finally, women get recognized for their behind the scenes bravery during WWII in this engaging tale of two French sisters and their struggles during the German occupation of France. Narrator is excellent & engaging. A different story for Ms. Hannah but well done.
Not only is this a great novel but hearing it performed by one of my favorite actors was a thrill. I was so disappointed when it ended!
In true "The Loved One" satire, Waugh describes a droll college professor in denial of his addition to pain meds and sleep aids. His journey blends a strange mix of reality and fantasy in quite humorous fashion, leaving the "reader" to wonder which was which -- an entertaining journey.
Not only is Herman Wouk's pre-WWII tale engaging and informative, Kevin Periseau's performance is delightful. I hope he will be tapped to do the sequel "War and Remembrance!"
OK -- I get it, Ms. Piccoult: you dislike the homophobic, born-again, conservative Christian right, and strongly approve of the gay lifestyle and marriage. Your proselitizing made me stop reading many times because it was so heavy-handed that I couldn't stand it. However, I did finish it and found the whole experience disappointing. Won't be so quick to pick up her next.
I bought this because I thought it seemed a good value for the money. Not only is the subject matter a snooze, the author is dry and droll. I am using it to put myself to sleep at night.
A great story and a great read. I just finished going through it for the second time and it is one of my favorites. The story is wonderful and I will look for more books performed by the narrator. I couldn't get enough of these characters and was so sorry when it came to an end! Bravo!
