William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless polish immigrant-born on the same day near the turn of the century on opposite sides of the world-are brought together by fate and the quest of a dream. Two men - ambitious, powerful, ruthless - are locked in a relentless struggle to build an empire, fueled by their all-consuming hatred.

Most of the time I find books by the same author to be too similiar and I lose interest. I listened to Prisoner of Birth and enjoyed so much I purchased this book. This book was very interesting and I had a hard time putting it down. Very few books have me so involved that I couldn't wait to read the ending. The narration was well done. Characters well written This is a good listen

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

It took me a while to get into the book. I started at the beginning 3 different times. I didn't think the ending was plausible with the information given during the listen. Maybe that was the author's way of surprising the reader. I just didn't think it made sense. I think the author could have developed the characters a little more. It was kind of like listening to an abridged version.

This now classic book revealed Flannery O’Connor as one of the most original and provocative writers to emerge from the South. Her apocalyptic vision of life is expressed through grotesque, often comic situations in which the principal character faces a problem of salvation: the grandmother, in the title story, confronting the murderous Misfit; a neglected four-year-old boy looking for the Kingdom of Christ in the fast-flowing waters of the river; General Sash, about to meet the final enemy.

I chose this book based on a Southern Living article. I really like books about the South, Pat Conroy being one of my favorite authors. I just didn't get this book. I couldn't tell where one short story ended and another began. Some of the language may offend you but I think it does represent the language of the day in the South.

I was happy when the book ended

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Captivating story, many twists and turns. I didn't like the narration. Really slow reading and voices used were not believable.

I pretty much described the book in the headline. Not interesting, not captivating in any way. It was not charming. It was not funny. It did not make me cry. I was predictable. It lacked depth in so many ways.It seemed more like an abridged version, something left out that would have made you connect with the characters.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Growing in the South in the 60's and 70's with a black housekeeper I could identify with some of situations. I also loved our maid. I can remember writing her a mother's day card. This book made you angry, cry and cheer for joy. It is one of the few books that if I was interrupted while listening I would rewind. It was well read and acted.

A satisfying tale of honor, chance, and star-crossed love infused with Southern wit, grace, and charm - the story of two old Southern families. The Langleys have more money than the Morgan Stanley Bank. And they think they have more class. The Barrett family made their 19th-century fortune in a less distinguished manner: corner grocery stores and liquor stores.

Ce Sea says: "Another great beach book"

The narrator read so slow and the Southern accent was a little over the top. The cliches were over the top as well. It had a predictable ending. Predictable ....pridictable..

I kept waiting for it to get better

The boy was born and raised on the Main Line, but he vanished on Philadelphia's mean streets, last seen in a downtown cheater's hotel. The boy's mother, Linda Coldren, is a golf superstar and Myron Bolitar's client. When he goes after the missing boy, presumed kidnapped, he crashes through a crowd of lowlifes, blue bloods, and liars on both sides of the social divide. Meanwhile, Linda's husband is trying to stage a comeback at the U.S. Open, only to be found dead in a sand trap.

This was a pleasant suprise. It kept my attention with the twist and turns, the humor. It didn't bore with me with a bunch of golf lingo. Usually I can guess the ending in a book but this took me by surprise. The book moved at a good pace.
