This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of Underland, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers - precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

Where does Splintered rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Fairly high.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a wholly unexpected interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. I really dug it.

What does Rebecca Gibel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does great voices. I felt like I was listening to multiple actors.

    Any additional comments?

Usually I can't tolerate present tense books in audio but this one was well done and less clunky than present tense usually is.

A century after a devastating volcanic eruption forced Iceland's inhabitants to abandon its shores, the island has become enshrouded in legend. But the truth behind the legends is mechanical, not magical - and the mystery of the island a matter of life and death for a community of women who once spilled noble blood to secure their freedom. Five years ago, Annika unwittingly endangered that secret, but her sister Källa took the blame and was exiled. Now Annika serves on an airship, searching for her sister.

What made the experience of listening to Riveted the most enjoyable?

    The narrator was marvelous.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Annika because she was really unusual as a heroine.

What does Alison Larkin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her accents and voices for each character were fabulous.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There's this one part toward the end...OMG, heart wrenching. I cried (in a good way).

    Any additional comments?

This book was odd for me because I didn't actually like the story as well as the prior Iron Seas book, but the emotions and the character arc was SO amazingly well done that I was super invested in the story anyway.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Would you consider the audio edition of Eternal Rider to be better than the print version?

No. There were parts that I missed while listening because the narrator varied the volume of her voice SO MUCH and I was not in a position to rewind to catch things. That's actually my only complaint (that and the fact that the sample only covers the definitions portion of the story). I should never need to adjust the volume on an audiobook, and I found my finger largely on the volume buttons because the narrator would speak softly then loud, softly then loud. The emotion and performance was actually quite good but WAY too much volume variation.
