Following a mysterious storm, the world is thrown into chaos. Communications are disabled along with computer networking. Nightly, the skies illuminate and with each sequential storm more and more people disappear. No one knows what is causing the events and as the governments break down, the population dwindles to a mere fraction. Communities are left to fend for themselves. Mankind faces an extinction level event. Grant and Rita Mason have lived in the same town for over three decades. Their town has become one of the few remaining pockets of civilization.

I enjoy a storyline that isn't regurgitated from another book; so this was different and worth the listen. However, I hated the performance. Listening to his real voice wasn't too bad, maybe a 3. But all other characters were as if they were 100 years old. Honestly, if the story wasn't so interesting I would have stopped listening.

Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse. Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.

What did you love best about Under the Never Sky?

Unique concepts, great characters that you can believe in. So tired of the same ole stuff, just changed a little to make it a new story; so this series is definitely worth the purchase.

What other book might you compare Under the Never Sky to and why?

Maybe a little Divergent, mixed with a little Enclave!

Have you listened to any of Bernadette Dunne Flagler’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she did an excellent job. Having listened to audiobooks for 25+ years, a narrator can make or break a story so its always great to listen to someone who's great.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A great book doesn't just have moments, but is moving and exciting throughout. This book makes you want to keep listening to see what happens next and that is why I think it's worth the purchase.

What would have made The Walk better?

OMGosh, I was bored. 3 hours into it and I was wondering why I was wasting my time. Slow, uninteresting, bored to death. I quit and 90% sure I won't bother to finish it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Under The Never Sky

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Not that I know of

What character would you cut from The Walk?

Sorry, there really wasn't any character that had depth, insight into anything that was happening. I seriously started daydreaming while listening to the stupid thing!

    Any additional comments?

Don't waste your credit. The 5th Wave, Haven, Enclave, The 100, One Second After and especially !!! the trilogy starting with Going Home are alternatives that would make you happier!

No electricity. No running water. No food. No end in sight. If life as you knew it changed in an instant, would you be prepared? In A. American's first novel, Going Home, listeners were introduced to Morgan Carter, the resourceful, tough-as-nails survivalist who embarks on a treacherous 250-mile journey across Florida following the collapse of the nation's power grid. Now reunited with his loving wife and daughters in this follow-up to Going Home, Morgan knows that their happiness is fleeting, as the worst is yet to come.

If you could sum up Surviving Home in three words, what would they be?

    Keeps you entertained

What did you like best about this story?

It's something that seems like its close to happening now; so reading the story gives us an idea of where things would go, what could happen, a direction to take if it ever does.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Preparedness = Survival

    Any additional comments?

I read the first book, Going Home, because it wasn't out in audio yet. This second book I not only listened to, but read at night then would forward to where I left off. Yes, it's that good. Next to "One Second After", I'd say it beat that one. Looking forward to reading the final book now.

In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She’s more concerned with feigning perfection - pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises, not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is. Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth - at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.

Would you consider the audio edition of Reason to Breathe to be better than the print version?

Yes, but only due to the narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

    Different concept. Emma's tenacity.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

    Emma

    Any additional comments?

This book wasn't perfect, but was worth the purchase. Book 2 (Barely Breathing) was long and drawn out, I probably wouldn't have finished reading the book version. Book 3 (Out of Breath) is a don't waste your money book. Reads like a soap opera.

“I’ve spent most of my life trying to make it to a future that still hasn’t happened, or avoid a past that won’t let me go. I don’t remember when I’ve ever just stopped to live in the present, to hold on to the seconds I’m in.”Emma Thomas’s struggle with an abusive home life came to a heart-pounding conclusion in the final chapters of Reason to Breathe, the first installment of The Breathing Series — Rebecca’s Donovan’s bestselling romantic thriller (USA Today). Now her secret life has been exposed, and her tormentor can’t hurt her anymore. Yet, some are still haunted by that night. The bruises may have faded, but scars and fears remain. How will she reclaim her life when she’s barely breathing?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Book 1 was good, but this one was harder to listen. Just when I thought I'd call it quits, something interesting would happen. It was worth the purchase, but just barely. And Book 3 wasn't worth the purchase at all.

Would you be willing to try another book from Rebecca Donovan? Why or why not?

Not if it was a series. Feels like she watches soap operas and keeps the ridiculous drama going. Not a book that keeps your interest throughout, that's for sure.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

    Emma of course.

Do you think Barely Breathing needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well, it has a follow-up and no, it wasn't worth it.

Emma Thomas is hiding. From everything and everyone... including herself. But she can't hide forever. Her past will find her, and her secrets won't remain quiet - not if she wants to be forgiven. Emma learns that honesty can hurt worse than betrayal, and the truth may cost her the only love she's ever known.

What did you like best about Out of Breath? What did you like least?

Narrator is best, book is really not worth purchasing. I loved Book 1, then Book 2 was not as good, but good enough to warrant the purchase. But this one feels like the author watched too many soap operas. I'm about 60% into it and will NOT finish it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Enclave

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

EXCELLENT narrator. I just started listening to Enclave and the horrible voice of the narrator made me realize how important it is! I can barely stand to listen; so I really appreciated Kate Rudd's ability in this series.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe Book 1, not the other books at all!

    Any additional comments?

Purchase Book 1 and 2, but I can't recommend this one.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I could barely listen to this book. Valley girl voices? Really?

Would you be willing to try another book from Lauren Oliver? Why or why not?

I have read others, and this story isn't so bad if it wasn't so hard to listen to it!

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
