Kate, Michael, and Emma have been in one orphanage after another for the last ten years, passed along like lost baggage. Yet these unwanted children are more remarkable than they could possibly imagine. Ripped from their parents as babies, they are being protected from a horrible evil of devastating power, an evil they know nothing about. Until now. Before long, Kate, Michael, and Emma are on a journey to dangerous and secret corners of the world....

Enjoyable listen, not the best ever written but well done and worth the credit. I am a big Jim Dale fan since the Harry Potter books and the only thing I found unusual was that some of the character voices were very similar to the Potter voices:

Dr Pym = Dumbledor, Cavendish = Peeves, Gabriel = Madeye Moody, The Countess = Belatrix and a few more.

I look forward to the next books in the series.

"The Secret Place", a board where the girls at St Kilda's School can pin up their secrets anonymously, is normally a mishmash of gossip and covert cruelty, but today someone has used it to reignite the stalled investigation into the murder of handsome, popular Chris Harper. Stephen joins forces with the abrasive Detective Antoinette Conway to find out who and why.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Removing the alternate female narration or at least replacing Ms. Hutchinson with someone who can be understood. Mr, Hogan was fine and the police chapters were decent. The girls parts were not intelligible to me.

Has The Secret Place turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I've read (listened actually) to all the other Dublin Murder Squad books and enjoyed them. I will wait to buy the next one until after it's been reviewed by Audible members.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Hogan and Lara Hutchinson ’s performances?

    Hogan yes, Hutchinson no

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed so far, if it doesn't improve I will return it (Thanks Audible)

    Any additional comments?

    Magic? Really? How about Leprechauns?

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

What made the experience of listening to The Casual Vacancy the most enjoyable?

The characters are real people. Ms. Rowling has described them in detail, warts and all.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Casual Vacancy?

Without spoiling what happens, the last few chapters are like a runaway train the plot elements build and interact, I could not stop listening.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Both the Dinner Party from Hell and the Birthday Celebration were excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried at places, however according to Ms. Rowling in the NY Times she did also.

    Any additional comments?

I know that my views are in the minority with so many negative reviews already. It's not Harry Potter and the Pagford Parish Council.; it wasn't meant to be. Give the story a chance, you may be surprised.

It is the summer of 1868, and Sherlock Holmes is 14. On break from boarding school, he is staying with eccentric strangers—his uncle and aunt—in their vast house in Hampshire. When two local people die from symptoms that resemble the plague, Holmes begins to investigate what really killed them, helped by his new tutor, an American named Amyus Crowe. So begins Sherlock’s true education in detection, as he discovers the dastardly crimes of a brilliantly sinister villain of exquisitely malign intent.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I enjoyed the beginning as young Holmes is attempting to solve the mystery he stumbles accross. The characters, Matty especially, were well explained. The end left several loose ends so I guess there will be more in the series. The confrontations with the evil Count were close to ridiculous.

What about Daniel Weyman’s performance did you like?

Well read and Weyman kept me intereted

    Any additional comments?

Bought on impluse to use during a long car trip. It was enjoyable but not great.
