From early stories like "Breaking Strain," to classics like "The Nine Billion Names of God" and "The Sentinel" (kernel of the later novel and movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey), all the way to later groundbreaking works such as "The Hammer of God" and "Transit to Earth," this volume encapsulates one of the great science fiction writing careers of all time.

Charles Gousha says: "Know what you're getting"
    "Need more"
    Overall

Pros: Wonderful works by a Titan of Sci-Fi

Cons: The publishers split up the original collection into two seperate audio publications (part two due this year I gather)

That irritates me.... So, only 4 of 5 stars for that stunt.

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

    Michael says: "Well Aged Heinlein"
"Wow... Much different than the movie!"
    Overall

The book and the movie are two entirely different animals. The movie is a parody of cheesy recruiting propaganda and the book is a sober reflection on the realities of war and the responsibilities of command. Duty, honor, and citizenship are examined in a clear, reasoned way. One can only wonder how, or by what shameful motivations, the revelations in this book got so corrupted by the dirty lens of Hollywood. This book is highly recommended... the pacing is perfect and the narrator is wonderful. It earns 5 stars as being one of the best that Audible has to offer.

Once again, Fannie Flagg gives us a story of richly human characters, the saving graces of the once-maligned middle classes and small-town life, and the daily contest between laughter and tears. Fannie truly writes from the heartland, and her storytelling is, to quote Time, "utterly irresistible."

    Overall

Despite high expectations and favorable reviews, this one turned out to be a yawner. It was like being stuck on a Grayhound bus for 6 hours next to a overly chatty grandma. My ear is still sore!

Pi Patel has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, everyone boards a Japanese cargo ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra with a broken leg, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

Theresa says: "Best audio of the year for me"
    "Strange and wonderful!"

The experience of listening to Life of Pi can best describe as a journey to the exotic hinterlands of the imagination. It is colorful and humorous, strange and wonderful, dark and distressing, hypnotic and surreal....

The Colour of Magic, the first novel in Terry Pratchett's wildly imaginative Discworld series, takes the listener on a remarkable journey. The magical planet of Discworld is supported by four massive elephants who stand on the back of the Great A'Tuin, a giant turtle swimming slowly through the mysterious interstellar gulf. An eccentric expedition sets out to explore the planet, encountering dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course "The Edge" of the planet.

Joel says: "Start in any of seven Disworld books"

This is the book that did it for me...
Now, 127 titles later I am hopelessly addicted to Audible.

What can I say about T.C.O.M:
    Great Story.
    Creative, colorful and humorous.
    Wonderful narration.

Boring and at times preachy and leftist... Was looking for a more scholarly treatment of the subject with some interesting insights.

America is under attack as never before - not only from terrorists, but from people who provide a rationale for terrorism. Best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza takes on all of America's critics and proves them wrong - as perhaps only a writer with an immigrant's understanding of this country can.

    Michael says: "Truly outstanding!"
    "A Rare Gem"
    Overall

The authors insight, logic, and reasoning is clear and sharp as a diamond and just as valuable. This book crystalizes the essence of what is so great about America and cuts through widely popular fallacies with cold, hard reason. Bravo to Mr. D'Souza for crafting a highly engaging treasure. I was truly captivated. 6 stars!!!

But a newly resurrected and fanatically militaristic Germany knows where the Texas is, too, and it knows the Challenger is coming. One of the most talked-about books of the year, A Fine Balance captures all the cruelty and corruption, dignity and heroism, of India in 1975. It is an Oprah Book Club selection, and has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in fiction, the Giller Prize, and the Commonwealth Writers Prize. Mistry "needs no infusion of magic realism to vivify the real. The real world, through his eyes, is magical," says The New York Times.

Excellent listen.... Unique and poignant. Don't expect a "feel good" Hollywood happy ending. Unfortunate that it was abridged.
