I'm glad I gave this book a shot. The description and the genre isn't what I'd usually be drawn to. I enjoy books by Rhys Bowen, John Scalzi, Brandon Sanderson, and Jim Butcher. But the book was captivating. The characters were more nuanced than many books I read. And the mystery really hooked me in.
John Scalzi has created another clever masterpiece with Android's Dream. The twists and turns were captivating.
I have yet to listen to a Doctor Who novel that was worth my time, and yet I keep trying. I love the television show and keep hoping to find an audio book that captures that same magic. This one did not though it might have been a half-decent tv script.
But at least I got to listen to David Tennant.
Another excellent story by Sanderson! There is something clean and crisp about his writing style, and the worlds he creates, that I enjoy. This is a mystery set in a world with hints of connections to our own. It also had a fantastic "feel good" moment that makes the end immensely satisfying. I can't wait for the next one in this series.
I loved the Grimnoir Chronicles trilogy by Correia - great, action-packed, trilogy. So I was excited to try his Monster Hunter trilogy. I listened to this book and at times had to force myself to continue. It just got sort of boring at times. The main character is interesting and the idea behind the story is interesting, but it just didn't keep my attention.
I was more that satisfied with the ending to the Grimnoir Chronicles. It was definitely action packed and tied up the story nicely. I love how Correia created such a strong female character as Faye. The rest of the cast is pretty male dominated but a few other good female characters give enough balance.
Yet another hit from Sanderson. I didn't anticipate the twists at the end which made them all the more enjoyable. The story seems like a blockbuster movie in the making. A great story that makes you want to hear the next one. I found my self wanting to know more and more of the details of the world and hear more of the back-stories of the characters.
Narrator John Glover did an excellent job with this book. I found him to be a pleasure to listen to. I wasn't sure if anyone other than James Marsters would be up to the task but, with him unavailable, the producers did an excellent job finding a substitute. The story was also engaging, if not as dramatic as the previous story. I enjoy seeing how the Dresden Files characters grow and develop from book to book.
Catherine Tate's narration is fantastic! I love hearing her do The Doctor. Interesting story too.
Quite enjoyable! It kept me wanting to keep listening. It might be a kids book but I found myself highly engaged and interested in the plot throughout. I only wish that the next book was available on audible.
