Monotone narration. Couldn't distinguish among various characters. Implausible story line. Chose this title because I'm planning a trip to Charleston, and was hoping to pick up some history or, at least, some place names.
Certainly nothing that she narrates.
With a different narrator.
I do have an hour left on the book, and plan to finish listening, so I suppose something is drawing me. Right now, I can't put my finger on it.
This is one of the best books I have listened to, and I have been a member for many years. Babe Ruth, Charles Lindbergh and many people I have never heard of. Who would think to write about an executioner? But it's all woven together beautifully. And I love the author's delivery. Not all authors should be reading their own books, but Bryson is perfect. I plan to listen to One Summer again.
I saw "Elmore Leonard" and bought it. What a waste of a book credit! The reader is boring, and so is the subject matter.
