A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic after rightfully accusing her boss of sexual harassment. Out of work and in a bad place personally, to Peyton a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful. Peyton dives into learning the resort business but is quickly derailed by an escalating chain of events that puts her life in danger. She refuses to be intimidated - until she’s nearly killed. Then she calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help.

Lesley Goranson says: "What a disappointment"
    "Julie Garwood's Hotshot is terrific!"

Would you listen to Hotshot again? Why?

Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors. Whether she is writing about the 16th Century or the 21st Century she is fantastic. Her characters are well rounded and her story line keeps me listening. I love her sense of humor. If I got stuck on a desert island I'd definitely want her books with me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hotshot?

The start of the book where she introduces you to the 2 main characters as children is so good l wish this chapter was longer.

Which character – as performed by Amy McFadden – was your favorite?

I usually choose the heroine but Finn, the hero in Hotshot was so good I have to choose him as my favorite.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Be prepared to be entertained!

    Any additional comments?

Hotshot is so good that I will have to have the hardback as well as the audiobook that I already have.

What did you like about this audiobook?

Good characters and good story, very believable.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

    The rescue at the cliff.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

That is a toss up. Linc 's physical attributes and acts of kindness, Meg's wonderful family, made me wish they lived next door.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

When Meg & Linc realized all the years apart weren't important.

Do you have any additional comments?

This was a fantastic ending to the trilogy. Don't Cry For Me & Next of Kin, Sharon Sala's first 2 books were so good that I didn't think she could equal them. The only thing wrong is that I wish she would write more books about Rebel Ridge. I love her close family theme.
If you haven't tried this author & narrator, you're missing out, big time.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. It was an enjoyable book. I enjoyed the first book of this series and I am looking forward to the next one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joshua was my favorite character. I loved his sayings and how he interacted with Bea.

Which character – as performed by Justine Eyre – was your favorite?

That is hard to say I guess I would say Bea.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Bea realized she would never be alone again.

    Any additional comments?

Jayne Anne Krentz writes under several different names, several different genres and it is amazing how good she is in all of them. I am always looking for her out of print books and I am glad that she is reissuing some of them.

On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a woman lies dead at the bottom of a brownstone’s basement steps, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the brownstone, she knows Marta’s murder is the work of a killer who’s trained, yet not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

Would you listen to Calculated in Death again? Why?

I would definitely listen to it again. I love the characters and the humor. I've listened to all of her books quite a few times. I know each time I'll enjoy them.

What other book might you compare Calculated in Death to and why?

I enjoy all of her books and she has such a definite style that it would have to be one of them. She just gets better and better.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Susan Ericksen has a definite voice for each character. I never thought that I would say this as I love reading books but audio is the format of the Death series that I read (listen to) first.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Dallas & Roark's conversations. If you left one or the other out of the book it wouldn't be the same.

    Any additional comments?

If I got stuck on a desert island Robb's books had better be there too or I start swimming.

Beth Venable has seen too much. Witness to a major mob hit, she's placed in protective custody until the trial. But after her third safe house is riddled with bullets, she goes offgrid to save herself. What the FBI can't do, her kinfolk will. The beautiful but forbidding Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky welcome Beth back, with dirt roads and rustic shacks a world apart from L.A. But her homecoming—even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker—is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep.

    M. Davis says: "Outstanding!!! From start to finish....loved it!!!"

If you could sum up Next of Kin in three words, what would they be?

Terrific, romantic, thriller!!!! I can' t wait for her next book. If I got stuck on a desert island I would definitely bring all of hers along. Thank goodness for tablets!!!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ryan, he was such a caring man and I loved the way he rallied the kin folk in the mountains to help keep his woman safe. There were so many good characters it was hard to just pick one, I loved the truckers who got Beth away to safety even though they had never met her. I've listened to it 3 times already!

What does Kathe Mazur bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the way she brought the southern accents and ages of the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a wonderful feeling of satisfaction when I finished. I knew I would be listening again and again.

    Any additional comments?

Be sure and try other Sharon Sala stories, my favorite is THE HEALER
