Wonderful descriptive narrative, a look into the soul of a man leaving his son and family and justifying it. I didn't finish it yet, but I will, I can recognize good literature, which this is, but right now, I just can't stomach it's subject.
I was facinated by the similarities in the financial and economical accounts in this book to our economy's struggles here in the US. This author made these usually somnambulistic topics not only understandable, but interesting to this mere financial mortal. There are some great lines in this book, a lot really, of the caliber of iconic quotes such as, "Never tell anyone outside the family what you're thinking!" (The Godfather). I thought it was THAT good. The narration was perfection. Plus, it was a great murder mystery. The best book I've read in a while, up there with Attonement and Pillar's of the Earth. I'll be on the lookout for the next book by this author. Just Excellent. Thanks.
I thought, whew, 40 hours, but I really enjoyed it. One of those books that keeps you up late.
I liked the way the story moved. My only complaint was the repeaded rapes and the details of step by step sex, which, I personally find boring by most writers, I did >> a couple of times. I'm downloading the sequel now, so that tells the real tale. If you like family and political sagas, you won't be disappointed.
