Yseut Haskell, a pretty but spiteful young actress with a talent for destroying men's lives, is found dead in a college room just metres from unconventional Oxford don Gervase Fen's office. The victim is found wearing an unusual ring, a reproduction of a piece in the British Museum featuring a gold gilded fly but does this shed any light on her murder? As they delve deeper into Yseut's unhappy life the police soon realise that anyone who knew her would have shot her, but can Fen discover who could have shot her?

I admit I never finished listening to this book. After multiple chapters of character description I never even made it to the murder. Sorry but I won't be going on with this series.

With the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, falconer Connor O’Dwyer is proud to call County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a circle that can’t be broken. A circle that is about to be stretched out of shape - by a long-awaited kiss. Meara Quinn is Branna’s best friend, a sister in all but blood. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside.

The story continues and the magic is there but the narrator seems to hate the story. I've tried to listen to this twice and was really sorry the tale was crushed by the teller.

Honoring the wish of her late grandmother, Maura Donovan visits the small Irish village where her Gran was born-though she never expected to get bogged down in a murder mystery. Nor had she planned to take a job in one of the local pubs, but she finds herself excited to get to know the people who knew her Gran. In the pub, she's swamped with drink orders as everyone in town gathers to talk about the recent discovery of a nearly 100-year-old body in a nearby bog.

I highly recommend this book and it's author. The characters keep you interested and the story is compelling. This book is part murder mystery but what keeps you fascinated is finding more about the main character, Maura. She is seeking a place in her world and finding Ireland in the process. The narrator is perfect and does an amazing job.

But never in their wildest dreams did the three professors expect the bizarre events that awaited them.... Where Miss Hilda Horsefall's recipe for homemade lye soap becomes as valuable as Dan Stott's knowledge of The Chronicles of Narnia....

    Story

This fantasy stuck in the middle ages is not what you'd expect from the author of the Peter Shandy mysteries. Going on and on in a middle ages fantasy is not what you want Dr. Shandy to be involved in. Sorry. I really like this mystery series but this story does not belong. My recommendation is read it if you want but I was very disappointed.

For years, Professor Peter Shandy has been badgered by Jemima Ames, Assistant Librarian and Annual Chairperson, to decorate his campus home for the Grand Illumination which is Balaclava Agricultural College's main fund-raising event. Now he can hold out no longer. Goaded to madness, he buries his small brick house under an avalanche of plastic reindeer, flashing lights, and fake Santa Clauses. Hooks up an amplifier blaring "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth," locks the switches at "on," and escapes to sea on a tramp steamer....

Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

This book was such a good listen that I despaired every time I had to leave the story.
Romance, history, mystery and more. Susanna Kearsley writes with grace and style. Of course Katherine Kellgren is the perfect person to read it to you. She has so many voices and accents that it seems impossible she is one person. This is the best audible book I have every heard. Download and enjoy.

When Amy and Effy Tribble, two charming but impoverished spinster sisters, lose out on a much needed inheritance, they place an advertisement in The Morning Post and hire themselves out as professional chaperones. Vowing to prepare even the most difficult misses for marriage, the Tribble sisters will spend a London season on each client in this delightful Regency series, The School for Manners. Felicity Baronsheath, their first assignment, turns out to be more of a challenge than they ever imagined.

The spinster sisters that are teaching manners and romance don't really seem experienced in either but muddle through. It is hard to like any of the characters but they are interesting. You keep hoping for more redeeming qualities but these seem lacking.

After years of bullying and cajoling others as a high-flying public relations boss, Agatha Raisin’s early retirement to the picture-postcard village of Carsley in the Cotswolds is a dream come true. And how better to begin making herself a local leading light than by entering the village quiche-making competition? Unburdened by old-fashioned ideas of fair play, the ruthless Agatha decides to ensure she wins by buying her entry from a London delicatessen.

I liked Agatha even for her faults. She is what she is and not at all ashamed of it. As the story progresses she becomes a bit mellow but still feisty. The mystery keeps you listening until the end as she solves a poisoning by pastry. This is new series for me and I can't wait to listen to the others.

Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Lady Fortescue is a lady with great sense and fortitude. By building her own family of poor relations she brings together hope and fortitude. Each person added brings more seasoning to the tale. It is a well written lovable story. I can't wait for the next one.

Co-author of the best-selling Mrs. Murphy novels, Rita Mae Brown launches a new series with this first mystery featuring Baxter the wirehaired dachshund. When Baxter and his owner, Mags, leave New York for Nevada, they find themselves embroiled in a real head scratcher. First, the local water-pumping station is sabotaged. Then, a murdered man’s bones - dating back to the 1800s - are unearthed in a barn owned by Mags’ great-aunt.

Too many facts. Too little mystery and dog chatter. It turned into a boring read and I was really looking forward to meeting a new animal detective.
