In The Revenge of Geography, Robert D. Kaplan builds on the insights, discoveries, and theories of great geographers and geopolitical thinkers of the near and distant past to look back at critical pivots in history and then to look forward at the evolving global scene. Kaplan traces the history of the world's hot spots by examining their climates, topographies, and proximities to other embattled lands.

What would have made The Revenge of Geography better?

I was so interested in this story, but I couldn't get past the first fifteen minutes. The narration is awful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert D. Kaplan again?

Absolutely not. There is a huge difference between a comma and a full stop. It was like listening to William Shatner read poetry.

What didn’t you like about Michael Prichard’s performance?

There is a huge difference between a comma and a full stop. It was like listening to William Shatner read poetry.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I'll have to let you know after I check it out and read it myself.

In this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life. From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to previously untapped data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

If you could sum up The Warmth of Other Suns in three words, what would they be?

    informative, moving, thoughtful

What does Robin Miles and Ken Burns (introduction) bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Robin's narration of the characters is excellent. There's never a sense of overdoing the accents or dialect. It contributes a lot to the feel of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I don't have that many hours in the day. But I did play it every chance I had.

    Any additional comments?

This is a very moving book about things that are so often glossed over in history class. It's too easy to forget the sins of our nation's past and the human struggles that resulted from them.
