I started this series on a whim and fell in love with JP's long time narrator Gene Engene. While the story is good, it was difficult for me to listen to a JP Beaumont book and not hear Gene. Also, there were some inconsistencies in the storyline. Specifically in regard to Rosemary Peters. I'm not sure I will finish the series out.
Interesting, witty, nice
I really can't make a comparison because this is Ace's first attempt.
Any scene with Hawk.
I thought that after Robert B. Parker's death that was the end of Spenser. However, Ace Atkins has done a formidable job of carrying on the Spenser tradition. He has adequately gotten the nuances of Spenser's psyche and has accurately portrayed the supporting characters. I would suggest to continue with Joe Mantegna's narrating the series. He also gets the characters. I've listened to other narrators of the Spenser books and there is NO comparison to Joe M.
Exciting, Thoughtful, Stimulating.
Of course, King Tremaine. He's a character that while he has violent tendencies, you understand where he's coming from. Plus he's fair.
Yes, Dion is one of my favorite narrators. He did a very good job with this book.
I actually liked Samson. Even though he was technically a part of King's rival family, he supported King like no one else did because of how King treated him.
The production of this book was not smooth, on many occasions, I could hear the narrator drinking and swallowing.
Better story line and narrator
This story line might appeal to a very specific group of people. It is not one that can satisfy someone who is new to the author and/ or locale of the book.
A different narrator completely. There were 2 but one just introduced particular scenes. The main narrator was dry, monotone and the accents all sounded the same. I got tired listening because the narrator sounded tired of talking.
Very disappointed. Usually EJD has me on the edge with bated breath. This one did NOT.
I have not even finished the book and I'm thinking about returning it. Do not waste a credit on this one. I may try reading it to see if I feel any differently but I'll borrow a copy. People were stating in other comments that this was the female Gideon. She is NOT, nowhere near. I'll wait for the next Gideon book narrated hopefully by Dion Graham.
No, I'm a fan of the Sophie Katz series and thought that I would enjoy this one. It was just okay to me. It was predictable.
It was too long. The story could have been told in half of the time.. Either more plot twists or shorten the story.
The narrator was decent. I would probably look for more books done by her.
No, it took a couple of days.
While I wouldn't return the book, I was just a little disappointed but not enough that I won't listen to another Kyra Davis book.
I stumbled upon this series and love it.
Andy is my favorite character in every book.
Grover does a great job at identifying each character.
There's always a laugh in store with Andy.
This story line was one of the most interesting and satisfying of the series so far. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I didn't. Mr. Rosenfelt got me with this one. Plus the fact that I'm a Jersey girl makes this series even more enjoyable because I can relate and remember places and attitudes of the area. I'm one book away from the end and will be waiting for the next book. This is also a series that each book can be on it's own. You done lose any history. But I would suggest following the series because it's just FUN!
I like the bridging of time between this and A Time to Kill
The Testament for the basis of the story
This was my first time listening to Michael Beck and I have to say that his performance was tremendous!!!
I had all reactions while listening to this book. I laughed, cried, cursed, and sympathized.
This book while it is a "sequel" can stand on its own. Don't miss the opportunity to listen to this one. It will be time well spent. The characters are fleshed out appropriately, the plot moves steadily and the twists are delightful. This is Grisham at his best.
It needed maybe 1 or 2 more chapters at the end of the book. I felt a like I was left hanging a bit.
I would but I would warn them that it's pretty predictable. However, I like the he said/she said concept of presentation.
I like that there are different people narrating the book. However, the production leaves a little bit to be desired when I can hear the narrator swallowing while reading.
I have been a fan of Denene and Nick for many years and I think they should write more together. But I would invest in a really good editor to round out the story line. You are both very talented writers and you are doing yourselves an injustice not to put out complete work.
funny, intriging and even suspenseful
Not on the edge but close enough
Grover has a way of giving each character their own personality.
If you're looking for a funny murder mystery series, this is it. I haven't gotten to a bad book yet.
I started this series on a recommendation from a friend. It wasn't that bad. The lead in was a bit slow but once the story got going it was pretty good. If you like sci-fi, this would be a good book for you.
Agent Predergast is the truth! Funny but dry wit.
Same as the book.
the story line was very convoluted. Even though Reacher usually stumbles into situations, how he gets into this one was kinda dumb. I won't spoil it for you. Plus the usual action that I have come to expect from Jack was not there until almost the very end. I think you could probably skip this book in the series and not miss anything.
Had to get used to Dick's performance, but now he's JR to me. He may need to have someone else do the female voices though.
