This is a very good read, but it is not for the fainthearted. It's graphic language and vivid portrayal of the life of a disadvantaged black teenage girl in New York City may give pause to some. Sadly, the author does not exaggerate. Precious' life is the life of far too many girls these days.
The story needs something to hook the reader right away.
The narrator's voice bored me.
I could not get into this book at all. I gave it a shot, but quit after an hour or so. There was not enough suspense to hold my interest.
It kept me trying to guess what would happen next.
I particularly liked the description of the tributes entrance at the games.
Katnip, of course!
Katnip's reaction to Roo's killing and her actions following.
This book is awesome. Ms.Stockett's portrayal of black women working as maids in Mississippi during the 60's highlights not only the racial inequalities and injustice of the times, but also the the struggles of these women within their own families. A must read for anyone that wants to remind himself/herself of how far we've come and how far we've yet to go.
This is a great summer read. It was effective in making me forget everyday drudgery.
An amazing book. I learned so much about the plight of women in some Middle Eastern countries. A must read.
This is a very entertaining book if you like fiction based on dark magic and the occult. I couldn't put it down.
John Grisham does it again! This is a great book! If you are a lawyer you'll most definitely relate to it. If you're not, you won't believe what some of them go through if they want to make it to the big leagues. Much of this book seems like fiction, but isn't.Thoroughly entertaining.
This is OK if you are or have ever been a waiter. If not, don't bother. You'll find it hard to identify with anything he says.
This is a great book. Although fictional, its inclusion of actual historical events makes it quite entertaining as well as informative. I recommend it.
