London, 1889. For Ira Adler, former rent-boy and present plaything of crime lord Cain Goddard, stealing back the statue from Goddard's blackmailer should have been a doddle. But inside the statue is evidence that could put Goddard away for a long time under the sodomy laws, and everyone's after it, including Ira's bitter ex, Dr. Timothy Lazarus.

I read a lot of gay mystery type books and I must say this one is one of the best! The story is believable and has action, suspense, and mystery. Jess develops the characters, giving them a history, an emotional life, and believable personalities. The narrator is excellent. I can't wait for the next book by Jess!

In the second installment of the Glen & Tyler series, the guys find out what happens when you inherit a Scottish castle, tussle with international crime gangs and host formal balls. Yes, balls - with dancing and everything!

I didn't think that the second book could be as fun and quirky as the first but JB Sanders hit another home run! Great character development, fun story, and a little bit of a travelog throw in!

It was a summer of glorious triumph for the mighty Roman Republic. Her invincible legions had brought all foreign enemies to their knees. But in Rome there was no peace. The streets were flooded with the blood of murdered citizens, and there were rumors of more atrocities to come.

Another great story by Mr. Roberts and a first class narration by Mr. Vance! My only complaint is that this is the last of the audible books in this series of, at least, 13 books. Please Audible, you got me hooked, produce more!

John Maddox Roberts takes listeners back to a Rome filled with violence and evil. Vicious gangs ruled the streets of Crassus and Pompey, routinely preying on plebeian and patrician alike. So the garroting of a lowly ex-slave and the disembowelment of a foreign merchant in the dangerous Subura district seemed of little consequence to the Roman hierarchy.

I've read all of Lindsey Davis' books (Marcus Didius Falco) and followed every one of Gordianus the Finder's investigations (Steven Saylor) so I'm no slouch when it comes to great, authentic, ancient Rome detective novels. Mr. Roberts develops the characters in a way that gives them depth and individual voices. I found that I really cared about what happened to them. He paints a wonderful picture of the expanse of Rome but also the danger and political doings that was ancient Rome. I must say that Simon Vance was superb as the narrator. He read naturally and imparted emotion to the characters and helped add to the events and story line.
