Following his #1 New York Times best seller Our Endangered Values, the former president, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, offers an assessment of what must be done to bring permanent peace to Israel, with dignity and justice for Palestine.

    "What a Waste"
    Overall

A pitiful anti-Israel diatribe by the worst president of the 20th century. Charming language but hardly an objective description of the situation. To equate Israel's border with apartheid is simple ridiculous. The author should go back to building houses and leave politics alone

The eagerly awaited new audiobook from the Emmy-winning, Oscar-hosting, Daily Show-anchoring Jon Stewart - the man behind the megaseller America (The Book). Where do we come from? Who created us? Why are we here? These questions have puzzled us since the dawn of time, but when it became apparent to Jon Stewart and the writers of The Daily Show that the world was about to end, they embarked on a massive mission to write a book that summed up the human race.

A few good moments but mostly sarcastic polemic on 'global warming'. After about 10 minutes we switched to music.

Now, in response to the collapse of the country's economy, the people have voted to instate a new Tsar, one who will be chosen from the descendents of Nicholas II. But a powerful group of Western businessmen want to make sure he is a candidate they can control, and hire African-American lawyer Miles Lord, with his knowledge of Russian language and history, to check the background of their chosen man.

Christopher says: "This was well worth it."
    "A Fast Paced Good Read"
    Overall

Kept me in its grip from chapter to chapter. Lots of good history and references to current Russia.

In Oh What a Slaughter, Larry McMurtry has written a unique, brilliant, and searing history of the bloody massacres that marked, and marred, the settling of the American West in the 19th century, and which still provoke immense controversy today.

    Flavius says: "Enjoyable and Balanced"
    "This is a shame"
    Overall

This author of such gripping historical novels turns to history and cranks out a rather boring book with frequent intrusion of his opinions on current world events. A man with a disappointing naive view of these events.

In the 1920s, Hajj Amin-al-Husseini was the political and spiritual leader of the Palestinian Arabs. A vicious anti-Semite, he led numerous pogroms against Jewish settlers. During World War II, al-Husseini allied himself and his people with Hitler: he lived in Germany, met with Hitler, encouraged "the final solution", and became close friends with Himmler and other Nazis.

    W. Sid Vogel says: "Powerful description of Hitler's Evil Mufti"
"A Fascinating Tale told rather poorly"
    Overall

Not a very interesting narrative. The historical figure is worthy of more investigation in the West, as he is one of the fathers of Arab anti-semitism. I do hope someone gives us a better version of the tale.

  • Casca the Eternal Mercenary: Casca Series #1

This is audiobook #1 in the Casca Series. When they flew Casey into the hospital at Nha Trang, the medics were sure he would die. That he didn't was only the first surprise. The second, and bigger one, was that Casey had been fighting for two thousand years, ever since that day on Golgotha when he thrust his lance into the side of the man on the cross.

Michelle Love says: "An interesting story for every Soldier to read."
    "Can't stop listening"
    Overall

This is as much fun as it is improbable. Based on the legend of Longinus, the author blends Ben Hur and the best of that ilk into a great adventure tale. I am truly addicted to the series.

For more than three centuries, slave ships carried millions of people from the coasts of Africa across the Atlantic to the New World. Much is known of the slave trade and the American plantation complex, but little of the ships that made it all possible. In The Slave Ship, award-winning historian Marcus Rediker draws on 30 years of research in maritime archives to create an unprecedented history of these vessels and the human drama acted out on their rolling decks.

    Michael says: "So much misery"
    "Tendentious scholarship"
    Overall

A good job of research but ruined by intrusion of doctrinaire Marxism. Still a good read.
